Super Bowl XIV rematch: Chiefs & Eagles set for 2025 clash

Kansas City V Philadelphia

Two teams are locked in for Super Bowl XIV as the Kansas City Chiefs secured a 32-29 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Monday (AEDT).

In a back-and-forth game, the Chiefs trailed early in the fourth quarter before quarterback Patrick Mahomes led the team on two late scoring drives to secure the victory.

In an excellent all-round game, Mahomes threw for 245 yards in the air with a touchdown, while he added 45 yards and two more scores on the ground.

With his 17th postseason win, the 29-year-old now has the second-most playoff wins of all time, sitting behind just Tom Brady (35).

On the hunt for their third consecutive Super Bowl victory, the Chiefs have now made it to the final game in five of the last six seasons, forming one of the most dominant dynasties in NFL history.

It is heartbreak for the Bills, who have now lost to the Chiefs in the playoffs in four of the past five years.

They had a tough call on 4th-and-1 late in the game that didn’t go their way, while tight-end Dalton Kincaid dropped a key pass on 4th down with under three minutes to play.

MVP candidate Josh Allen threw for 237 yards and two touchdowns, while running back James Cook had 134 scrimmage yards and found the endzone twice on the ground.

But when the game was on the line, the Bills just couldn’t get there as Kansas City showed they were still the team to beat.

Earlier in the day, the Philadelphia Eagles secured a dominant 55-23 win over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship.

Led by their dynamic run game, the Eagles offence was unstoppable, while their defence was able to generate four key turnovers, which they scored from each one.

Running back Saquon Barkley continued his historic season with 118 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Jalen Hurts added three more rushing touchdowns himself.

Looking to become the first rookie quarterback to make the Super Bowl, Commanders star Jayden Daniels was strong with 255 passing yards and a touchdown.

But with so many turnovers, Washington were never going to be able to compete.

The result sets up a replay of Super Bowl XVII, where two years ago the Chiefs were able to secure an exciting 38-35 victory.

Early odds have the Chiefs as slight favourites at $1.75 with leading NFL bookmakers, while the Eagles are at $2.10.
