Following their nail-biting encounter on Tuesday evening, the Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades are set to battle it out once again in the T20 Big Bash League, this time at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.
The Strikers will be hoping to break two-game losing streak against the Renegades, and despite their final-ball loss on Tuesday, they enter this match as favourites with most BBL betting sites. Having restricted the Gades to 9/153 after a superb back end of their bowling innings, Adelaide would have been the favoured side at the innings break, but they couldn’t get it done against a strong bowling performance from Zahir Khan, Kane Richardson and James Pattinson.
Jake Weatherald struggled to hit it off the square in the opening powerplay and was brought undone by a Jake Fraser-McGurk special on the boundary line, but the Strikers will be hoping he can find his form in front of their home faithful. Weatherald averages a tick over 28 in the shortest format, while the flat Adelaide deck expected and short square boundaries suit his game perfectly.

The Melbourne Renegades will be looking to remain undefeated and will need another big effort from their bowlers. Outside of the Strikers’ 45-run opening partnership, the Gades took wickets on a regular basis on Tuesday night, and if they bowl to a similar standard on Thursday, this Adelaide batting line-up looks vulnerable and primed for the taking.
The surprising part of the Renegades’ win was their top-order performance. With veteran openers Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch missing through injury and captain Nic Maddinson away on Australia A duty, it was left to youngsters Sam Harper (33 off 28) and Mackenzie Harvey (56 off 46) to set the tone for the evening, and they did the job with a 65-run opening stand. If those two can replicate that kind of output on Thursday night, it will go a long way toward helping the Renegades remain undefeated in BBL11.

To take 2+ wickets: Rashid Khan
Rashid Khan on his day is one of the best T20 bowlers in the world, but the leg-spinning genius only managed to take the solitary wicket on Tuesday night under the roof at Marvel Stadium. He gets back to Adelaide Oval, a ground where he thrives, and with an average of 17 runs per wicket and a wicket every 16 balls in the BBL, he is a bowler you cannot keep grounded for long. With upwards of $2 available for the Afghanistan superstar to take two or more wickets, it looks to be a smart bet.

Melbourne Renegades to win
Despite the Strikers suiting up at Adelaide Oval for the first time this season, we expect the Renegades to repeat the result they put together on Tuesday night. The Gades have now won each of the last two encounters between these two sides, and with an A-grade bowling attack and an enigmatic batting line-up at their disposal, we anticipate they will be too good for this Strikers side once again.
