The St George-Illawarra Dragons travel south for round nine to take on the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park. The Dragons are coming off two wins in a row after the beat the Sydney Roosters at the SCG on Anzac Day, before taking down the Wests Tigers who have found form of late.
Alarmingly for the Dragons, the Storm have a cumulative score line of 120-12 in the last two weeks and are currently the most offensively damaging side in the NRL by far. The Dragons have named an unchanged 17, while the Storm have lost Tepai Moeroa to injury with Jordan Grant taking his place.
The betting markets early suggest Sunday will be another day of one-way traffic in favour of the Storm. They have been backed from $1.22 into $1.07, pushing the Dragons from $4.10 out to $8.50. This huge drift in betting does create value in the betting market. With rain predicted in Melbourne Storm on Sunday, and the fact the Dragons have only conceded 34 points in the last three weeks, taking the Dragons with the +23.5 point line is a smart play at $1.90 with Palmerbet.
Taking the Dragons with the +23.5 point head start is not the only smart play heading into Sunday. The Melbourne Storm have been performing at a level so incredible, it would be incredibly difficult to maintain that standard of attacking output. Factor into that the prediction of rain on Sunday and taking the ‘unders’ for the match points total which is set at 42.5 is another good play.
With that being said, it’s still expected that Melbourne will win on Sunday. Given that prediction, expect to see Melbourne score the first try with odds of $1.25.
Ryan Papenhuyzen and Xavier Coates are two of the leaders in try scoring for the 2022 NRL season. While it’s not expected the Storm pour on the points as they have in recent weeks, you can still expect these two to score at some point in the match. At $1.40 & $1.68 respectively, you want those two onside in your SGM.

KEY MATCH UP: BATTLE OF THE FORWARDS
The forward packs for these two clubs have been incredibly physical to start the 2022 NRL season. Line speed, first contact and cover defence have been keys to these sides controlling the middle third of the field and propelling them to wins. The winner of the battle in the middle will create time and space for their playmakers and outside backs to get on the front foot and attack. The winner of this battle should go a long way to deciding the outcome of the match.
