State of Origin II: Blues v Maroons preview
State of Origin heads to the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday night for a sudden-death clash between New South Wales and Queensland.
Although the Maroons lead the series after their 38-10 victory in Sydney, rugby league bookies have brought the Blues in from $2.57 to $1.85 to win this match.
The Joseph-Aukuso Sua’ali’i send-off led to NSW’s heavy loss in game one, but the side will be desperate to win this match and take the Maroons to a decider in Brisbane.
Queensland, on the other hand, will be hoping to head to Suncorp Stadium in search of the state’s sixth series whitewash and its first since 2010.
New South Wales coach Michael Maguire has made several changes to his starting side. Dylan Edwards will make his Origin debut after being ruled out of game one with a quad strain, Latrell Mitchell returns in the centres for his first match since 2021, Mitchell Moses comes in at halfback, and Cameron Murray starts at lock.
Connor Watson has been added to the bench as utility. Sua’ali’i is suspended, while James Tedesco, Nicho Hynes, Cameron McInnes and Hudson Young have all been dropped.
Billy Slater has also altered his Queensland side, naming Felise Kaufusi and Kurt Capewell on the interchange. J’maine Hopgood is out with a back injury, while Selwyn Cobbo has been omitted.

Blues v Maroons Game II predictions
The Blues and Maroons have met six times at the MCG, with New South Wales winning five of those matches. However, they have lost the last two series and three of the last four. Given the heavy shift in the match markets, there is better value in backing the Maroons at $1.97 odds with top online bookmakers.
Queensland’s Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has had arguably the greatest start to a State of Origin career of any player in history, scoring eight tries in five matches. Fresh off a hat-trick when filling in for Reece Walsh at fullback in game one, the $6.25 price for ‘Hammer’ to score two or more tries is incredible value.
Blues winger Zac Lomax had a brilliant debut for the Blues, scoring their second try and running for over 200 metres. Moses’ return to the side at halfback will be a big boost for the Blues, as the Eels star has a stronger all-round kicking game than Hynes. Look for that to result in a Lomax try ($2.30).
