Both St Kilda and Richmond will be looking to go 2-1 on the 2022 AFL season when they clash at Marvel Stadium this Sunday afternoon.
On paper this looks like an intriguing contest between evenly matched sides. Online bookmakers cannot split these teams and the game is priced as a classic coin flip. The outcome should give a clear picture of where these sides are currently placed.
The Saints have started the season with a 17-point loss to the unbeaten Magpies and a solid win over the Dockers in WA. While not expected to vie for the flag, the Saints are some chance to sneak into the top eight and play finals. They appear motivated and hungry going into round three, and big man Paddy Ryder is a noteworthy inclusion this weekend.
Richmond is also 1-1, with a defeat at the hands of the unbeaten Blues and an impressive round two victory over the Giants. The Tigers have a squad that runs deep, which was demonstrated when personnel issues hit some of their brightest stars ahead of the GWS clash. It’s always pleasing to see teams display the versatility to win without their biggest names, and Richmond’s list maturity will take them a long way in 2022.

Key matchup: King vs Riewoldt
Saints key forward Max King booted 4.1 against the Dockers in a low-scoring game and it will be interesting to see if he can back it up here. Given that goalkicking accuracy often determines the result of close contests, we’re going to match King up with Jack Riewoldt – who returns from a minor thumb injury – even though they’ll be at opposite ends of the ground. If either can kick four, with support from some small crumbing forwards, their side might just pinch this seemingly well-matched contest.
St Kilda vs Richmond betting strategy
We’re sticking with the Tigers here and are happy to take coin-flip odds. Jack Riewoldt and Dylan Grimes look likely to return, but the squad depth makes us confident that even if last minute changes are needed, other well-drilled contributors can step in to fill the gaps. So, we’re taking a solid swing at the Tigers either straight-up at $1.85, or to win 1-39 at $2.35, depending on your price sensitivity. We’ll make the Tigers straight-up bet the official tip but would be very surprised if either team won by more than 39 points.

St Kilda vs Richmond AFL same-game multi tips
For reasons of value, we’ll kick the multi off with the Richmond 1-39, into resilient old-timer Trent Cotchin to get more than 20 disposals, into Tigers speedster Marlion Pickett to grab more than 15 disposals. This trio will return a handy $4.69 courtesy at Marantelli Bet.
Richmond 1-39 / Cotchin 20+ disposals / Pickett 15+ disposals
