One of the most underrated mini-rivalries in the AFL would have to be between the St Kilda Saints and Gold Coast Suns, who are preparing for a massive clash at Marvel Stadium this Saturday.
The two sides have served up five fantastic contests in a row, all of which the Saints have won by single figures, but this may be the week the Suns finally take them down.
Stuart Dew silenced his doubters over the weekend after his Suns took down the previously unbeaten Blues by five goals, as Gold Coast’s midfield combination was simply too strong.
Leading the way in the middle was young star Noah Anderson, who continues to improve alongside his best mate Matt Rowell. Anderson had 35 disposals and kicked a goal in round four, and he could be primed for another massive outing.
The Saints were unstoppable against the Hawks last weekend, as they kicked a massive score of 142 following four goals from each of Max King, Tim Membrey, Jade Gresham and Brad Hill.
It will be a tough trip for the Suns heading south to Marvel Stadium, but they have gotten so close to beating the Saints in the past, there is a very real chance they get the job done this weekend.

Key matchup: Touk Miller vs Jack Steele
These two players took a massive step in 2021, as Touk Miller and Jack Steele became two of the hardest-working midfielders in the competition. Miller’s ability to run hard both defensively and with the footy separates him from other superstar midfielders. Steele may not have the same athletic capabilities as Miller, but he knows how to win a contested ball better than most. Steele also has a knack of pushing forward and hitting the scoreboard, which is where you can find some value from a betting perspective.
St Kilda vs Gold Coast match prediction
The Saints have won the last six matches against the Suns and should do enough this weekend to make it seven. Max King is a threat up forward and allows the likes of Tim Membrey to dominate up the ground, which is exactly how they tore apart the Hawks last round. The Suns will make it a close contest once again, so expect a very entertaining nail-biter.
St Kilda by 1-39 points
St Kilda vs Gold Coast goalkicker betting tips
The St Kilda captain is known for his ability to win a hard-ball and distribute to his outside runners, but he is also very capable of pushing forward and hitting the scoreboard. Steele is paying longer odds to kick a goal weekend, despite kicking a pair of goals in his last two matches against the Suns. We think the skipper will dominate the midfield and do some damage upfield.
Jack Steele anytime goalscorer
St Kilda vs Gold Coast AFL same-game multi
You can lock in a close game this weekend between the Saints and Suns, following the trend of their recent bouts. Noah Anderson will continue his great form in the midfield with a bunch of disposals, while Jack Steele will hit the scoreboard and lead the Saints to victory.
St Kilda 1-39 / Steele anytime goal / Anderson 25+ disposals
