Sportsbet pays out $1.5m on losing bets for West Coast
ONLINE bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au has paid out $1.5 million to anyone who backed West Coast to beat Collingwood yesterday, even though the Eagles lost.
The 24 UP promotion means if your team leads by 24 points at any stage, you win.
The Eagles may have let their big advantage slip, but the 4,991 punters who backed them didn’t mind at all.
The biggest wagers on West Coast were $15,000 at $1.90 and $10,000 at $2.10.
“Since we started the 24 UP promotion, we’ve paid out $5.3 million on losing bets but this one’s easily the biggest,” said Sportsbet’s Christian Jantzen.
“Everyone’s a winner except us it seems.”

Punter turns $150 into $111k sports multi win
The 10-leg multi started last Monday when the customer picked the LA Lakers ($2.56) to beat the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Summer League.
His AFL winners were Adelaide ($1.90, -12.5), Essendon ($1.90, -24.5), Melbourne ($2.16), Western Bulldogs ($1.90, -18.5), Sydney ($1.90, -26.5), Hawthorn ($1.90, -3.5), Richmond ($2.38), Collingwood ($2.16) and Brisbane ($2.55).
The punter restricted his other multi to six legs and AFL cellar-dwellars Brisbane, again got him over the line.
“What an impressive effort and a massive windfall for a $150 outlay,” Jantzen said.
“It’s hard enough finding a winner in the AFL let alone nine and throw in a basketball game.
“This punter did it twice on the weekend, absolute genius effort.”

Can any horse beat Winx in 2017?
Trainer Chris Waller gave punters their first look at Winx this campaign when the superstar mare trialled at Randwick this morning.
Three months out from the Cox Plate and Sportsbet.com.au has Winx at $1.60 to win the race for the third year in a row.
Winx is also a $1.15 favourite for the George Main Stakes in September, which is likely to be her first Group 1 this campaign.
The online bookmaker is offering $2.50 for Winx to stay undefeated for the rest of 2017.
Arch-rival Hartnell is $4.60 favourite to become the first horse to beat Winx, ahead of any other horse ($5.00) and Scales Of Justice ($5.50).
“Exciting times ahead with Winx returning,” said Sportsbet’s Will Byrne.
“She looked magnificent and is a great chance to continue to build on her unbeaten run of 17 wins in a row.”
