Round 20: Manly Sea Eagles v Gold Coast Titans match preview

A completely re-invigorated Gold Coast Titans outfit will travel south on Sunday to take on the high-flying Manly Sea Eagles in round 20 of the 2024 NRL Premiership.

The Sea Eagles have won three of their last four matches, with victories over the Knights, Dragons and Cowboys. However, all these teams sit below Manly, who are seventh on the NRL ladder.

The Titans are 14th on the ladder, on equal points with the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Brisbane Broncos. Having won each of their last three matches, including a narrow victory over the Cronulla Sharks, the Titans are making a late-season bid to play finals.

Des Hasler has made a couple of changes to his Titans side following last week’s win over the Eels. AJ Brimson (hip) has been rested, with Keano Kini named to start at fullback. Moeaki Fotuaika will start in the front row, pushing Josiah Pahulu back to the bench.

Manly coach Anthony Seibold welcomes back State of Origin captains Daly Cherry-Evans and Jake Trbojevic to the starting side, with Ben Trbojevic named on the bench. Nathan Brown steps into the front row, while Toafofoa Sipley moves to the interchange.

Jamie Humphreys, Clayton Faulalo and Caleb Navale have all been dropped to the reserves. Haumole Olakau’atu is also facing a stint on the sidelines for his involvement in a melee during the Origin decider on Wednesday night.

Manly v Gold Coast R20 betting predictions

The Sea Eagles have won three of their last five clashes with the Titans, but they did lose their last match at this ground. Given the Titans have won four of their last five games at 4 Pines Park, and eight of their last nine as underdogs have been decided by four points or less, there is great value in backing the Titans to win by 12 or less at $3.90 with Neds.

Five of Manly’s last six matches at their home ground have gone over the total points line. However, only one of their last five games have produced more than 51 points, while at the same time, the Titans have had just two games exceed that mark. With some players backing up from the Origin decider, expect less than 51.5 total points scored at $1.90.

Tom Trbojevic has returned in brilliant form for Manly. He scored a try last week against the Knights, also recording three try assists and two tackle breaks. Trbojevic has scored a try in five of his last six appearances with the Sea Eagles starting as favourites, so he looks a safe bet at $1.58 anytime tryscorer odds with Picklebet.
