Representative round continues Saturday when Samoa and the Cook Islands meet for the very first time at Campbelltown Sports Stadium in Sydney. Littered with current and future NRL talent, this game will serve as both an incredible display of the rugby league ability that has come of both Pacific Island nations, as well as a look towards the future.
This is only the second game the Cook Islands will play as a nation and will be missing the experience of the likes of Alex Glenn, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and Marata Niukore. However, we will see Broncos up and coming forwards Brendan Piakura and Xavier Willison who continues his return from an ACL injury. Across the park, over half a dozen NRL clubs are represented for Samoa, with every player named in the squad having played in the NRL this year.
The odds are heavily in favour of the Samoan side, and rightfully so given the experience this squad has. However, they will be by no means perfect with many untested combinations on display, as well as some players slightly out of their favoured positions. Therefore, winning margin markets are the way to go, and in the 10-point winning margin market, Samoa are brilliant value to win by 21-30 points. Especially given the amount of talent they do have in their side, which is paying $4.25 with Palmerbet.
Josh Schuster will line up in the back row for Samoa having recently played in the halves and off the bench for Manly on return from injury. Playing in the back row will simplify his game and give him more opportunities to run the ball as opposed to distributing for those around him. Schuster is a great value play to score at try at any time during this match paying $2.65.
Another player representing great value in scoring markets is Izack Tago. Try scoring of late for Tago has been difficult, especially against lower quality NRL clubs being the Bulldogs, Knights and Warriors. Look for a strong return to form for Tago in his debut at the international level and score 2+ tries paying $4.20 with the top NRL bookmakers.
KEY MATCH UP: Josh Aloiai v Xavier Willison
Both men are players considered to be playing out of position given where they regularly line up. Aloiai has been starting in the front row for the Sea Eagles, while Willison debuted in the front row for Brisbane and has played in the same position returning from injury through the QLD Cup. Both Aloiai and Willison will be hoping to find the leg speed and ball playing skills we’ve come to expect of the modern-day lock forward. Whoever does that job best will be key to helping their country towards a win.
