Rugby Australia player receives three-year doping ban
Sports Integrity Australia has backed the decision made my Rugby Australia to sanction fly-half Liam Moseley for the presence of a metabolite of a prohibited substance and the use of a prohibited substance.
Moseley, who has been plying his trade for Southern Districts in the New South Wales Shute Shield, returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) from an out-of-competition doping control test on April 1, 2021.
The player’s sample detected the presence of Di-hydroxy LGD-4033 (Ligandrol) and it was determined Moseley had used the prohibited substance on or before April 1, 2021.
Rugby Australia imposed a three-year ban on the 24-year-old, dating back to the April 1 finding, meaning Moseley is unable to participate in any sports that have adopted a World Anti-Doping Code-compliant policy until April 1, 2024.
Moseley has long been dubbed as a future star of rugby union in Australia but has also spent time with the Brisbane Broncos (NRL) and Brisbane Lions (AFL) as well as the Queensland Reds.
LGD-4033 is promoted as a selective non-steroidal anabolic agent. It is claimed to be substance that induces muscle (and bone) growth without the side effects associated with steroid use.
Sport Integrity Australia revealed that substances like Ligandrol have associated health risks, particularly for the heart and liver.
Moseley’s suspension is the second of the type for the Shute Shield in recent months, with Max Girdler suspended for one month following a returned AAF to cocaine.
