Sydney Roosters v Penrith Panthers match preview
Super Saturday NRL action wraps up in Sydney with the Roosters hosting the Penrith Panthers at Allianz Stadium.
These two sides met almost a month ago, when the Panthers belted the Roosters at home. Will the east be able to extract revenge over the west?
The Panthers have been rocked by the grade two hamstring injury that will rule out star halfback Nathan Cleary until round 21. Jack Cogger comes in as his replacement with Jaeman Salmon returning to the interchange bench.
The Sydney Roosters will be without Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii for their next three matches after the centre entered an early guilty plea for dangerous conduct. With the return of Daniel Tupou from injury, Corey Allan moves to the centres as Suaalii’s replacement.
The Panthers have won their last three matches against the Roosters by a total of 106-34. The loss of Suaalii compounds the injury and suspension woes the Roosters are facing with Victor Radley, Sam Walker and Brandon Smith all sidelined.
However, this could force the star-studded Chooks to simplify their style of football in the middle third, potentially presenting them with more attacking opportunities. Should this become the gameplan, the Roosters are a chance to upset the Panthers and win at $2.50 with the top NRL betting sites.
Joseph Manu and James Tedesco are the two biggest stars in this Roosters outfit and will be tasked with leading the attack. Manu played a key role for the Roosters in their win over the Bulldogs last week by running for over 100m and breaking half a dozen tackles, while Tedesco starred with two tries himself. We like both Manu ($3.75) and Tedesco ($2.85) to score a try at any time during the match.
Dry and relatively warm conditions are predicted for Sydney this weekend, which will almost certainly produce an entertaining, high-scoring game of football. Despite losing Cleary, the Panthers still have a number of premiership winners in their side capable of scoring points from anywhere on the park. Should the Panthers bring their best gameplan with their halfback missing, and should the Roosters continue to build their winning ways, this match will exceed 38.5 total points ($1.90).

Following his performance for the New Souths Wales Blues in game one of the 2023 State of Origin series, James Tedesco’s try-scoring double was labelled the performance to silence his critics. The true test will come on Saturday when Tedesco takes on Dylan Edwards, the man many say should be the one to replace the Blues captain. Both players have an incredible workrate and can produce special plays. The challenge for Tedesco will be continuing to make up for his absent teammates.
