Responsible Wagering Australia appoints Kai Cantwell as CEO
Kai Cantwell, the former chief of staff of federal ministers and Oracle’s ex senior public sector adviser has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Responsible Wagering Australian (RWA).
RWA, Australia’s independent body for licensed online wagering operators, announced Cantwell’s appointment in a statement released on its website on Friday.
His appointment comes as the Federal government continues to inquire into the gambling regulations and impact on the citizens.
Cantwell spent a decade in the federal government, during which he served as the NSW/ACT State Manager in the Commonwealth Department of Social Services.
With extensive experience in social policy and service delivery, Cantwell possesses a thorough understanding of Australian laws and regulations. He played a significant role in coordinating, developing, and implementing the National Consumer Protection Framework for Online Gambling.
Welcoming the appointment, RWA’s chair, Nick Minchin said, “With his wealth of leadership experience, Mr. Cantwell is uniquely positioned to lead RWA and present a confident and united voice on behalf of its members. His deep understanding of social policy, sports, wagering and Government position him perfectly to lead RWA and its members as we continue to promote socially responsible wagering and advocate for the highest standards in the sector.”
According to Cantwell, it was a privilege to collaborate with RWA members, as well as with sporting and racing organizations and governments at all levels. He pledged to maintain a balanced approach that safeguards consumers, regulates the industry, and preserves individuals’ freedoms.
“As we further boost research, data and insights capability, I look forward to leading RWA to further understand problem gambling behaviour and target effective measures,” he said.
He will assume office on April 17th, 2023.
