South Sydney Rabbitohs are a hot favourite for their NRL round 17 clash against North Queensland Cowboys at Accor Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The fourth-placed Rabbitohs have been priced at $1.40 to win by the top online bookmakers, with the Cowboys outsiders at $2.98 to cause an upset.
A number of State of Origin stars have been named to back up from Wednesday’s match, but which club will be able to secure the win?
Reece Robson, Jeremiah Nanai, Valentine Holmes, Reuben Cotter and Murray Taulagi have all been named in the reserves for the Cowboys, and could be late inclusions, depending on their recovery. Heilum Luki (facial injury) has been ruled out until round 22, while Brendan Elliot has also been left out of the side.
The Rabbitohs have several big inclusions into their side with Cameron Murray and Damien Cook named, along with Cody Walker, who will return from injury. Richard Kennar has been named to replace Taane Milne with Davvy Moale and Thomas Burgess named on the interchange.
The Rabbitohs and Cowboys have met at Accor Stadium ten times with the home side securing seven victories. While these two teams are traditionally even matched, Sunday shapes to be a very different outcome. Without early confirmation of the representative stars backing up for the Cowboys, the Rabbitohs are the safest bet early to cover the -7.5 point line and win at $1.89 with PalmerBet.
The return of Walker for this Rabbitohs side will is huge for their attacking ability. The Souths five-eighth is one of the best right-to-left passers of the ball in the NRL and combines regularly with Alex Johnston to score in the corner. This lethal pairing are likely to attack rookie Semi Valemei and out of form veteran Peta Hiku, with Johnston well-priced to score 2+ tries at $4.30.
The Rabbitohs have also greatly improved their attack on the right hand side of the field through halfback Lachlan Ilias, which has seen Campbell Graham score consistently this season. The Cowboys will not only have Graham to defend, but Keaon Koloamatangi, who is one of the most damaging back-rowers in the NRL at his peak. Look for Koloamatangi’s full-time return to the starting side to result in a try ($3) at any time during the match.

The battle in the middle between these two ball-playing locks will be fascinating. Murray played limited minutes in New South Wales’ series loss on Wednesday night, which should aid in his recovery for Sunday. He will make it his personal goal to limit the physical impact and second phase play Taumalolo has on the game. If Murray fails to do so, the Cowboys could cause an upset in Sydney.
