Punters loading up on McGregor to beat Mayweather
PUNTERS are already laying big money on what many in the business are calling the greatest fight of all-time.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. opened as Sportsbet.com.au‘s roaring -666.67 favourite to beat Conor McGregor when the two superstars meet in Las Vegas on August 26, 2017.
Even though he is coming out of retirement for the fight, online bookmakers were united in their initial support for ‘Pretty Boy’.
However, early betting patterns suggest the wider gambling community has far less confidence in the 40-year-old American.
McGregor started as a rank outsider, but the Irishman’s odds are shortening by the day.
Only a week since the fixture was confirmed, Sportsbet has taken more than $200,000 on the UFC star to win.
That is 10 times the amount wagered on Mayweather thus far.
As such, McGregor has firmed from +450 into +400 in the outright betting.
Mayweather is still the bookies’ pick, but his price is out to -555.56 and will keep drifting if the current trend continues.
“McGregor is the only one punters want right now and if the support continues this way, those odds will be a lot closer when they step into the ring,” said Sportsbet’s Will Byrne.
