Port Adelaide v Collingwood match preview
A top-of-the-table clash headlines round 19 of the 2023 AFL Premiership as the Port Adelaide Power take on the Collingwood Magpies at Adelaide Oval. Expect a high-quality contest as these sides try to lock in their top-two spot on the ladder.
Last weekend, the 13-game win streak was finally ended as Port Adelaide went down to the Carlton Blues by 50 points at Marvel Stadium. Rocked by six changes coming into the game, the Power were blown away at the start of the second quarter as the Blues kicked five unanswered goals in no time. Never recovering, the Power fell further away as the game went on, while the Carlton forwards had a day out.
The Magpies hosted the Fremantle Dockers last weekend, winning comfortably by 46 points. After a tight opening term, a 10-goal second quarter set up a 53-point margin at half time. Brownlow Medal favourite Nick Daicos was impressive with 36 disposals and a goal, while his brother Josh Daicos had 31 disposal and a goal.
After getting through unscathed on the weekend, Collingwood are expected to be boosted by the return of key position players Darcy Cameron and Brody Mihocek.
The Power are expected to bring back plenty of stars this weekend, with Charlie Dixon, Jason Horne-Francis and Trent McKenzie all on track. After being rested in the final quarter last week, star midfielder Zak Butters is expected to hold his spot after being cleared of any injury. However, small forward Darcy Byrne-Jones will miss after suffering a concussion against the Blues.
Last time these two sides played each other, the Magpies dominated the match with 14 different players hitting the scoreboard. Since then, the Power have shown that they can compete with the top teams in the AFL, and they have a chance to avenge that result on Saturday night.
This will be a clash of two different styles of play as the polished uncontested possession game of the Power faces the high-pressure, fast-moving game of the Magpies. Which approach will come out on top this weekend?

Port Adelaide v Collingwood betting predictions
Despite being only one game apart on the AFL ladder, the percentage advantage the Pies have over the Power is a key indicator of form and dominance so far this season. Improving from last year’s regular fourth-quarter comebacks, the Magpies have been winning games comfortably, whereas the Power have won a lot of close encounters. At $1.84 with Palmerbet, the Magpies show good value as favourites.
Returning from injury after missing the last two weeks, Brody Mihocek slots in as the number one target in the Collingwood forward line. Averaging 2.1 goals a game this season, Mihocek gives up an inch or two on most key defenders but makes up for it with speed on the lead and agility at ground level. Expecting his form from this season to continue two or more goals against the Power at $1.75 with top AFL bookmakers.
A surprise All-Australian contender this season, Dan Houston has been in exceptional form for the Power. Lining up mostly at halfback, he collects the uncontested ball at will while also playing at the contest in the defensive half. Averaging 31.5 disposals over his last month of footy, Houston is on a great run of form and looks a good play to gather 25 or more disposals at $1.96 this weekend.
Key matchup: Connor Rozee v Nick Daicos

Connor Rozee has all the tools to be one of the best midfielders in the AFL. The Port Adelaide gun is at his best when going forward, setting up teammates inside 50 while also averaging a goal a game. A big game is needed from Rozee if the Power are to win this one.
Leading the AFL for disposal and recently making a move to play more midfield time, Nick Daicos is extremely damaging whenever he touches the footy. Collingwood’s rising star has also added goals to his game, hitting the scoreboard seven weeks running, so stopping him goes a long way towards stopping the Magpies.
