Picking winners for the Round 7 A-League multi
UNLIKE every other major soccer competition around the globe, the A-League did not stop for the international break and fortunately for the fans, the quality of the football did not dip despite several key names missing league-wide.
Sydney FC remains undefeated at the top of the ladder and continue to go from strength-to-strength – firming into $3.60 at Sportsbet.com.au for the title. Over in the city of churches, Adelaide United’s winless start to the season continued, which saw the Reds firm into $5 for this year’s wooden spoon.
Who would have thought that Adelaide would be the third favourites for the wooden spoon after hoisting the A-League trophy a mere seven months ago?
There are several great matchups this week that we have had a look at, but punters need to bear in mind that the match between the Wellington Phoenix and the Melbourne Victory will not go ahead as planned on Saturday due to the earthquakes that impacted New Zealand this week.
All odds for the seventh week of the A-League season were provided by Sportsbet.com.au, who is offering punters a fantastic inducement for those yet to sign up.
New customers can get their first bet at Sportsbet matched up to the value of $501.
Selections for the A-League Round 7 multi of the week:
Melbourne City to defeat Western Sydney Wanderers ($2.35)
Perth Glory to beat Adelaide United ($2.05)
Sydney FC to beat Brisbane Roar ($2.35)
Newcastle Jets to win against Central Coast Mariners ($2)
Combined multi value: $22.64 @ Sportsbet.com.au
Western Sydney Wanderers vs. Melbourne City
Friday, November 18 from 7.50 pm AEDST Spotless Stadium, Sydney
The two ‘younger brother’ teams of the A-League kick off the seventh round of matches as City travel to the west of Sydney to face the Wanderers.
City has won two of the last three matches including an impressive 2-1 victory over the Newcastle Jets last week.
Bruno Fornaroli scored a first half brace against the Jets, taking him to six goals for the season. Last year’s golden boot winner is the clear $2.87 favourite to go back-to-back in the goal scoring tally.
Western Sydney is in dire need of a win. The Wanderers have not won since round two and their 3-0 loss to the Victory last weekend was as bad as they have played all year.
The loss pushed the Wanderers out to $11 in title betting at WilliamHill.com.au, the first time they have been in double figures.
There is no reason to doubt the form line here – we expect City to extend Western Sydney’s winless run to five games.
Perth Glory vs. Adelaide United
Friday, November 18 from 10pm AEDST, NIB Stadium, Perth
The second of the A-League’s double header Friday night sees the Glory hosting the Reds in Perth.
Both teams are in horrendous form and need to register a win if they are to get their season back on track.
The pair have just two points from their combined last six matches.
The Reds are winless this season and we are finding it hard to mount a case as to why they would be able to travel to Perth and defeat one of the most talented rosters in the A-League.
We are expecting the Glory to snap their three game losing streak, extending the Reds winless run to seven games.
Perth Glory to win – $2.05
Brisbane Roar vs. Sydney FC
Saturday, November 19 from 7.50pm AEDST, Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
The two hottest teams in the league in the form of Brisbane and Sydney clash in the sunshine state on Saturday night in what could very well be an early grand final preview.
The Sky Blues are yet to drop a point in the 2016/17 season and have combined attacking prowess alongside stonewall defending.
Sydney has conceded just two goals for the entirety of the season to date whilst scoring an incredible 17 of their own.
The Roar are fresh off a disappointing 1-1 draw alongside Adelaide United last week, but prior to that John Aloisi’s men had recorded three straight wins.
The scoring has not been as prolific as they would like, but the defense has been spectacular in the last month of football given Brisbane has conceded just two goals.
Both teams are defensive powerhouses and we are predicting a narrow score line. We are taking both the Sky Blue to win and predicting an under 2.5 goals ($2 at Sportsbet.com.au) outcome.
Newcastle Jets vs. Central Coast Mariners
Sunday, November 13 from 5pm AEDST, Allianz Stadium, Sydney
Final game of the week is the F3 derby between the Newcastle Jets and the Central Coast Mariners.
Both the Mariners ($2.50 at Sportsbet.com.au) and the Jets ($2.75 at Sportsbet.com.au) might be first and second in the wooden spoon betting, but they are arguably the most positively surprising teams in the league this campaign.
Only once was either team truly blown off the park this season, and both sides have been capable of recording more than the solitary win that each team currently possesses.
The Jets are in the midst of a three game losing streak but they had their chances in all three matches.
Their 2-1 last week loss to Melbourne City could have easily went the other way if Newcastle has some luck.
Newcastle is one of our favourite teams to watch this campaign and we think they are a step above the Mariners. We are backing the Jets to finish off our multi in style.
Newcastle Jets to win – $2
