Perth Scorchers top Big Bash title odds heading into BBL14

The Perth Scorchers are favourites to win their sixth Big Bash League title this summer, with cricket bookmakers giving the West Australian side an edge in the outright odds a month out from BBL14 getting underway.

With the season beginning on December 15, Perth ($4.50) hold a narrow gap over Sydney Sixers ($5) in the title betting at PlayUp.

The Scorchers have bolstered their batting lineup in the offseason, adding Kiwi opener Finn Allen to their squad in the latest overseas draft.

Allen’s strike rate of 168.60 across all T20s is second only to the West Indies’ Andre Russell, with the 25-year-old boasting the record for New Zealand’s highest-ever T20I score (137 runs from 62 balls) as well.

Perth have also drafted English duo Matthew Hurst and Keaton Jennings, who join the likes of Ashton Turner, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis and Mitch Marsh in the Scorchers’ batting lineup.

Sydney, meanwhile, have added Jafar Chohan and Akael Hosein while retaining Sean Abbott, Josh Philippe and Steve Smith as they look to go one better than last summer.

The Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes are also paying competitive odds to win the upcoming BBL, sitting joint third on $6.

Brisbane are looking to win back-to-back titles for the first time and will be hoping the firepower of Colin Munro, Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja can deliver a repeat of last year.

Hobart have added in-form West Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Shai Hope, while Kiwi allrounder Corey Anderson departs after an indifferent BBL13 campaign.

The remaining four teams — the Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Thunder, Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars — sit on underdog odds of $8 to $10 heading into the BBL season.
