Panthers v Dragons match preview
Round 13 of the 2024 NRL Premiership continues on Saturday with the Penrith Panthers hosting the battered and bruised St George Illawarra Dragons at BlueBet Stadium.
The Dragons come into this match in 13th position on the NRL ladder after last week’s devastating loss to the Bulldogs. Nevertheless, they can climb into the top 10 with an upset win this weekend.
Meanwhile, the Panthers will be battling for top spot on the ladder, thanks in no small part to the dismal performance from Cronulla last weekend in their 42-point loss to Ivan Cleary’s side.
The Dragons will be without Ben Hunt, Jaydn Su’A, and Zac Lomax, who have been called up to represent their respective states in game one of State of Origin, having already lost Hame Sele (shoulder) and Jack Bird (knee) to injury.
Sione Finau will play his second NRL game on the wing, with brothers Max and Matthew Feagai also in the outside backs. Jesse Marschke has been selected to play halfback, Jack de Belin will captain the side in the front row, and Luciano Leilua will start in the second row alongside Raymond Faitala-Mariner with Tom Eisenhuth locking the scrum. Ben Murdoch-Masila will come off the bench with brothers Toby and Ryan Couchman.
The Panthers have also lost their core of representative stars, with Brian To’o, Dylan Edwards, Isaah Yeo, Jarome Luai, and Liam Martin all named in the New South Wales side for Wednesday’s clash, while Matthew Eisenhuth (concussion) will watch on from the sideline.
Daine Laurie returns to the side at fullback, with Paul Alamoti at centre, Jesse McLean on the wing, and Brad Schneider at halfback. Liam Henry starts in the second row, Lindsay Smith lines up at lock, and Mavrik Geyer and Tyrone Peachey fill out the bench alongside debutants Trent Toelau and Preston Riki.
Despite their losses across the park, the Panthers have been backed from $1.49 into $1.32 to beat the Dragons.

Panthers v Dragons predictions
The Panthers have won four of their last five matches, and they’ve beaten the Dragons in their last five meetings. Penrith have also won 13 of their last 14 clashes at BlueBet Stadium. Back the home side to cover the -9.5 line at $1.90 odds with Neds.
Both sides are missing key creative players in their outside backs and spine. Rain is also predicted for Penrith at game time, which will make point-scoring even tougher. Expect this to be a low-scoring affair with less than 44.5 total points scored ($1.90).
Penrith centre Izack Tago has been in outstanding form, scoring two tries in his last three matches. He has also scored in each of his last two appearances at BlueBet Stadium. Lining up against the inexperienced Max Feagai, Tago is offering great value to add another try to his tally ($2.20).
