Dolphins NRL odds

NRL Dolphins

The Dolphins enter their second season in the NRL having had a far more successful first season than anticipated. After five rounds of the 2023 competition, the Dolphins sat in 7th spot on the NRL ladder before finishing 13th. That was in front of the Canterbury Bulldogs and St George Illawarra Dragons, two of the most historically prolific clubs in the NRL.

This season will be the Dolphins’ last under coach Wayne Bennett who will hand over the reins to Kristian Wolfe at the season’s end. During the off-season, Bennett managed to secure the services of Queensland Maroons forward Thomas Flegler, and English & Dally M Centre of the Year Herbie Farnworth who will be joined by Jake Averillo.

Will the Dolphins be able to secure a top-eight finish in just their second NRL season?

Let’s look at the Dolphins NRL odds for 2024.

NRL Dolphins players to watch in 2024

The Dolphins’ NRL odds might not favour them to push deep into the 2024 season, but they undoubtedly have some serious talent on their books.

Some of the Dolphins players to watch in their inaugural season are:

Herbie Farnworth

Herbie Farnworth

Born: 23/12/1999
Games: 79
Tries: 34
Position: Centre
Herbie Farnworth comes to the Dolphins from the Brisbane Broncos, where he established himself as one of the best centres in the NRL. His ball-carrying and defence are impeccable, as are his skills around the ball, which will see him score a number of unlikely tries. Farnworth is expected to play inside the NRL’s leading point scorer and second-highest try scorer of 2023, Jamayne Isaako. Farnworth’s biggest test will be his ability to facilitate play that will put Isaako in the in-goal area and score tries for the club.

Thomas Flegler

Thomas Flegler

Born: 19/8/1999
Games: 96
Tries: 5
Position: Prop
Thomas Flegler also comes from the Broncos and enters an incredibly unique position with the Dolphins. He will join former premiership-winning forward Jesse Bromwich, Kenneth Bromwich, Mark Nichols, and Felise Kaufusi, who will have a wealth of knowledge to pass on to the future Dolphins and Queensland Maroons enforcers. Flegler has been known to make irrational decisions on the field that land him in hot water, and this season could be enormous in the development of his temperament on the field.

Valynce Te Whare

Valynce Te Whare

Born: 15/9/2000
Games: 12
Tries: 6
Position: Centre
Valynce Te Whare burst onto the scene in the Magic Round of 2023 for the Dolphins, where he scored a double on his debut. The former rugby union player struggled through the rest of the 2023 season to cement a position in the side, coming off the interchange bench at points in the season. 2024 will be Te Whare’s opportunity to cement a role in this side, following a tough pre-season under coach Bennett. Should he cement a role, he will be an incredibly valuable member of this team.
