The Wests Tigers will host the Cronulla Sharks at Scully Park in Tamworth this Saturday in Round 22 of the 2022 NRL Premiership.
The Tigers disappointed at home in their last match against the Knights, falling agonisingly short at the death to go down 14-10. Cronulla got through a fiery local derby over the Dragons with a 22-18 win, which made it four wins from their last five starts.
Wests had a game put on a platter for them last week and they failed to take their chance. It would have got them out of the wooden spoon race after what has been a dismal season, so those who backed them for the most losses can still hang onto their betting slips.
Without Jackson Hastings they appear to lack some direction, and the last plays of the game showed that. The Tigers had a nine-on-three overlap on the right side of the field following a linebreak and they followed it up with three one-up runs because the ‘six again’ bell went off.
It was just horrible game management. Coming up against the Sharks this weekend, they’ll be eaten alive if they continue to play with a lack of intelligence.
Two players who have been terrific for them in the last few weeks are Kelma Tuilagi and Asu Kepaoa on the left edge. Tuilagi has improved slowly all season and has shown he can be a damaging force on the edge, while Kepaoa’s evasiveness got him a good try last weekend.
Both should be considered for a same game multi if you’re after a tryscorer, as well as Adam Doueihi, who has a knack of finding the line because of his excellent running game.

Cronulla keep on going quietly about their business and they look to be just about locked in to a top-four finish in their first season under Craig Fitzgibbon.
Whether they are a legitimate chance to go all the way to a grand final is hard to judge, and their run into the finals series does little to determine if they have what it takes.
This is a game where the Sharks can only win on the scoreboard and they can lose just about everywhere else. Even if they play poorly, they should be good enough to get the win, but then the commentary of ‘they just haven’t blown us away yet’ will continue.
Cronulla could also pick up key injuries or suspensions, so how does the group prepare itself for a game it should win easily at the pointy end of the season? We’ve seen in the past just how quickly it can turn sour for teams.
The 13+ margin at $1.87 is going to get the most attention, and rightly so, while Kade Dykes at $2.10 feels like a nice omen bet to get a debut try at fullback.
Key matchup: Jock Madden vs Nicho Hynes
Jock Madden gets a great chance to atone for the game management errors he made at the death against the Knights when he comes up against Nicho Hynes. Hynes has been one of the stars of the 2022 season, so Madden can make a name for himself if he puts in a good display and shows improvement.
Tigers vs Sharks Rd 22 betting predictions
Cronulla 13+ feels inevitable. Even if they don’t fire on all cylinders in attack, their defence is just too good. Wests barely fired a shot at the worst defence in the NRL last week, so what hope are they against a good defensive unit?
