A super Sunday of NRL kicks off at 2pm in Parramatta when the Wests Tigers take on the Penrith Panthers at Commbank Stadium. The Tigers will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak, while the Panthers will be looking to get their eighth win on the trot.
While the Penrith Panthers have been strong while the Tigers have struggled, expect history to repeat this coming Sunday. In the 2021 season, the Tigers took on a Panthers side void of its Origin stars, and the Tigers won. Will history repeat itself this Sunday?
While the Panthers will be without the likes of Nathan Cleary, Jarome Luai and Isaah Yeo, the Tigers have made many changes to their side too. Jackson Hastings will shift into the lock position to organise the Tigers centre third, pushing Luke Brooks and Adam Doueihi into the halves to create points and Joe Ofahengue into the front row. Will these changes be enough to get the Tigers over the line?
Not only are the Wests Tigers facing a depleted Panthers side, but they have futures coaches to impress if they wish to stay at the club. It’s been confirmed Tim Sheens will take over the head coaching role for 2023 & 2024, with club great Benji Marshall expected to take over from 2025. This will force players to prove to the Tigers coaching staff they deserve to be at Concord in the years to come. That motivation should return a strong performance from the Tigers to secure a win over the Panthers paying $3.10.
More often than not this season, any time a football team has won, and David Nofoaluma has been involved, he’s been the main factor in their win. In a show of support that the club and the direction they’re taking, look for Nofoaluma to stand up and show he deserves to be a Tiger in the future. As it’s happened for Samoa and the Tigers on more than one occasion, Nofoaluma should score 2+ tries at a healthy price of $7.75 Palmerbet.
The Panthers may be void of their Origin stars, but this does not mean they’re without hope of putting points on the scoreboard. In round 13 the Panthers ran out an identical one to the side that will take the field Sunday. Round 13 for the Panthers was against a struggling Bulldogs side, and Penrith finished up with 30 points. The Panthers won’t be quite as damaging, and should the Tigers turn up, will score between 11-20 points paying $3.05 with the top Australian bookmakers.
KEY MATCH UP: DAINE LAURIE v DYLAN EDWARDS
Dylan Edwards will captain the Panthers as he often does when the Origin stars are out and will continue to lead the side as he does with his actions every week. Edwards is one of the best fullbacks in the game with his kick returns and support play. A former Panther will be opposing Edwards, and be pushing his case to have a future at the Tigers. Daine Laurie left the Panthers knowing Edwards was the man for the Panthers long term, and will be on display for his future coaches in the hopes of one day working with Marshall. This battle of the fullbacks will be a clash of class vs desire.
