NRL Round 5 draw, betting odds & teams to watch
We have only been back a couple of weeks, but already some big stories are unfolding in the 2020 NRL Premiership season. If you are already caught up with our review of round four, it’s time to look ahead to the matchups and key betting markets for round five.
Broncos vs Sea Eagles
It appears to be the Manly Sea Eagles and by how many after the hopeless display the Broncos put forth against a Roosters side without James Tedesco.
Brisbane’s record on the road under Anthony Seibold has been dreadful, winning just three games out of a possible 12 games away from Suncorp Stadium.
The Brisbane Broncos at the $4.50 head-to-head price reflects that perfectly and the Sea Eagles 13+ at $2 is exactly what the Roosters paid in round four. The line is 11.5, so it appears this game will be nothing short of a procession for Manly.
The Sea Eagles to win between 21-25 points at $11 presents fantastic value and could be one the punters jump all over.
Warriors vs Cowboys
It’s another home game on the Central Coast for the New Zealand Warriors and a 2,000km journey for the Cowboys.
The best-case scenario would be a charter flight to Warnervale before a quick bus journey to Central Coast Stadium, or it could mean flying to Sydney before a 90-minute bus ride.
However the North Queensland Cowboys get to a Friday 6pm kickoff, the tyranny of distance makes the $2.85 for the home team look like good value.
As much as $4 for the Warriors by the 1-12 margin should have punters licking their lips, especially if Jason Taumalolo isn’t quite at his mythical best carrying a knee injury.
Eels vs Panthers
We get to see Nathan Cleary take his place back in the Penrith Panthers‘ starting lineup, which should give us more of a gauge on how they are tracking in 2020.
They still haven’t registered a loss, but giving up a 14-0 lead to draw with a second-string Knights team in round three sure felt like one.
The Parramatta Eels have earned $1.44 favouritism due to their fantastic record at Bankwest Stadium, where they’ve won 11 of 13 games at the venue since it opened.
However, one of those losses came to – yep, you guessed it – the Panthers, which makes this Friday night thriller all the more intriguing.
Rabbitohs vs Titans
This feels like a ‘get healthy’ situation for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
It’s a great chance to get Cody Walker back into the fold and work their way into form against a team who have been substandard for almost their entire existence.

The Gold Coast Titans have lost 12 of their 14 away games since the start of 2019 and the $3.90 price looks too big to realistically mess with.
Yes, they may have caused a huge upset last start, but the horror away record and coupled with an opposition team coached by Wayne Bennett spells a tough night at the office for the Titans.
Knights vs Storm
After two impressive road trips to Campbelltown to remain undefeated in 2020, the Newcastle Knights at $2.35 head-to-head looks awfully tempting if you fancy the home underdog.
The Melbourne Storm kicked clear in the final 20 minutes against Souths and were underwhelming against Canberra at home, so their form line isn’t the strongest heading into this one.
The Storm won two tight away clashes before the competition was suspended, so that could explain the $1.60 favouritism.
Over 40.5 looks a great shout for total points with Newcastle averaging 27.5 points per game under new coach Adam O’Brien.
Tigers vs Raiders
In the past few years, this clash has been a one-way procession for a Canberra Raiders side who have regularly racked up big scores against the Tigers.
Ricky Stuart will no doubt have read the riot act to his players after a disappointing loss and another trip to Campbelltown gives the Green Machine a fantastic chance to get back on track.
The Wests Tigers‘ last-start defeat against the Titans, who they were expected to handle comfortably, also signals a long night at the office.
In their last seven clashes, the average margin of victory has been 30 points with Canberra winning six of the seven games. The Tigers’ only win was a two-point margin in 2018. Raiders 13+ at $2.20 appears to be the way to go.
Bulldogs vs Roosters
The Canterbury Bulldogs may have won by 20 points in their last start, but it will counts for little when they face the premiership favourites this weekend.
A huge win for the Sydney Roosters appears a fait accompli, so the 13+ in a multi with the Sharks 13+ at $3.92 might be the way most punters go.
Dragons vs Cronulla
Normally, a local derby like this one excites southern Sydney.
But with the Cronulla Sharks having just the one win and the Dragons on the treadmill of mediocrity, it paints a bleak picture.
As explained earlier, the option of Cronulla 13+ in a multi with the Roosters appears to be a great way to maximise your return on what should be two clear-cut wins.
