NRL: Crichton takes leave from Roosters after bipolar diagnosis
Reports have surfaced surrounding Sydney Roosters forward Angus Crichton, who is undergoing treatment after being diagnosed as bipolar.
Reports first surfaced roughly one month ago via social media that Crichton would be taking an indefinite break from the NRL with no clarification on the issue causing his leave.
However, over the last 24 hours, Crichton’s father has spoken publicly about the issue his son is facing.
“Angus is under appropriate professional support and treatment for medically diagnosed bipolar disorder which he has been dealing with for some time,” Charlie Crichton said.
“He is fully supported by his family, his management and the Sydney Roosters club as he works towards recovery.”
Crichton has been an integral part of the success enjoyed by the Roosters and the Australian Kangaroos, while also having a key role in the success of New South Wales in State of Origin.
Crichton has also largely avoided moderate-to-serious head injuries throughout his NRL career while playing for the Rabbitohs, Roosters, Blues and Kangaroos.
This comes as huge relief to club and NRL officials, as no correlation can be made between head injuries and the diagnosis of Crichton’s condition.
