Canterbury Bulldogs v Wests Tigers Round 9 match preview
Super Saturday football for round nine of the 2024 NRL Premiership kicks off in Sydney with a resurgent Canterbury Bulldogs side hosting the Wests Tigers at Accor Stadium.
The Bulldogs have improved greatly this season, and the round eight bye couldn’t have come at a better time. Having beaten the Knights comfortably in round seven, Canterbury will be look for their first back-to-back wins in 2024.
The Wests Tigers have also shown great improvement under new head coach Benji Marshall, despite sitting in 15th in the NRL ladder. They have lost three of their last four matches, with two coming against 2023 Grand Finalists, the Broncos and Panthers. However, this match against the Bulldogs is a great opportunity for Marshall’s men to return to the winner’s circle.
Canterbury Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo has been forced to replace Chris Patolo (knee) with Josh Curran in the front row. Kurt Mann returns from a hand injury at lock, while Jacob Preston is named in the reserves and could be a late replacement for Jaemon Salmon.
Tigers coach Benji Marshall has named an unchanged line-up following last week’s loss to the Broncos in Campbelltown.

Canterbury Bulldogs vs Wests Tigers NRL R9 predictions
The Bulldogs have been well-supported favourites in early markets with the top NRL bookmakers, and for several reasons.
The Bulldogs have won three of their last five matches against the Tigers in Sydney, with two of those wins coming by 13 points or more. Also, they have covered the line in each of their last five matches, while the Tigers have lost each of their last nine at this ground. Fresh off the bye, the Doggies have shown enough improvement to win this clash by 13 or more ($2.60).
The Tigers have struggled in their last three matches, losing both halves of each. On the other side of the park, the Bulldogs have led at half-time in each of their last three wins. Expect another strong performance by the home side from the outset to complete the half-time/full-time double ($1.73).
Bulldogs forward Samuel Hughes has been in brilliant form in recent weeks, scoring a try in each of Canterbury’s last two games at this ground. At the same time, in three of the Tigers’ last four losses, they have conceded tries to middle forwards due to some suspect defence. Punters can get incredible value for Hughes in the anytime tryscorer market ($8).
