Norm Smith Medal 2023 betting tips, best smokies & predictions
With the 2023 AFL Grand Final upon us, much of the attention goes towards the players that can put on a stellar performance on the biggest stage. Here are our tips for the Norm Smith Medal.
2023 Norm Smith Medal favourites
Nick Daicos (Collingwood)
After a third-place finish in the Brownlow Medal during the week, Collingwood youngster Nick Daicos has well and truly established himself as one of the best players in the AFL. Known for performing in big games, he already has plenty of accolades to his name – such as an All-Australian jacket, a Rising Star and an ANZAC Medal. Playing anywhere from half-back to half-forward, Daicos gets a ton of the footy and has a knack for hitting the scoreboard at critical times. However, he has only played one match since round 21, so he may be slightly underdone.
Best odds for Nick Daicos
Jordan De Goey (Collingwood)
Following a best-on-ground effort last weekend against the GWS Giants, Jordan De Goey will be a major factor once again for the Magpies. One of the most explosive players in the AFL, he had 13 clearances against one of the stronger midfield units in the AFL. Always a chance to get on the scoreboard, De Goey doesn’t need to have plenty of the football to be the most impactful player on the field. One concern may be the risk of increased opposition attention to limit his impact.
Best odds for Jordan De Goey
Lachie Neale (Brisbane Lions)
After winning his second Brownlow Medal during the week, Brisbane star Lachie Neale will be looking to add to his collection with a premiership and a Norm Smith Medal. The leading clearance player in the AFL, Neale has the ability to impact the game at all times, attending nearly every centre bounce. He also collected three Brownlow votes when the Lions beat the Magpies in round 23. However, with just three goals this season, Neale will need to find plenty of the football if he is to be in contention for the Norm Smith Medal.

Scott Pendlebury (Collingwood)
Even at 35 years of age, Scott Pendlebury is still a critical part of the Magpies midfield unit. His composure and decision-making under pressure put him in a class of his own. Having won the Norm Smith Medal back in 2010, Pendlebury understands the pressure of an AFL Grand Final, which could give him an advantage on the day.
Best odds for Scott Pendlebury
Charlie Cameron (Brisbane Lions)
With 10 goals across Brisbane’s two games against the Magpies this season, Lions small forward Charlie Cameron is clearly a concern for the Collingwood defence. Needing few opportunities to make an impact, he could sway the selection panel with goals at critical moments in the match. However, as a player who averages only 10 touches per game, Cameron will need to make the most of his chances to have any hope of winning the Norm Smith.
Best odds for Charlie Cameron
Joe Daniher (Brisbane Lions)
Brisbane’s top target inside 50, Joe Daniher has the ability to take over this match if he can get on the scoreboard. Also working up the ground, Daniher takes contested marks along the wing as well as doing a bit of ruck work. He will most likely be matching up on Collingwood captain Darcy Moore, which will make his job that little bit harder.

Keidean Coleman (Brisbane Lions)
Following his exceptional performance against Carlton, Brisbane half-back Kiedan Coleman will be looking to emulate that performance this weekend. If he combines his intercept ability with elite ball use, he could stand out as a real difference-maker.
Best odds for Kiedan Coleman
Darcy Moore (Collingwood)
If Darcy Moore can keep his direct opponent quiet while regularly intercepting the ball, he could be a chance to catch the selectors’ eye. However, if his forward kicks more than two goals, it would be incredibly unlikely that the Collingwood skipper figures in the voting.
Best odds for Darcy Moore
Jamie Elliott (Collingwood)
Known for kicking goals in important moments, Magpies forward Jamie Elliott could be the difference between these two sides if he can have major scoreboard impact. However, he has only kicked 1.4 in this finals campaign so far.
Best odds for Jamie Elliott
