This Monday (AEDT), the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will duke it out at Arizona’s State Farm Stadium in the 57th edition of the Super Bowl. These are our best bets for the biggest day on the American sporting calendar, with odds courtesy of Marantelli Bet.
NFL Super Bowl 57 head-to-head bet: Kansas City Chiefs
It is hard to differentiate these two squads. Both teams are 16-3 this season and have been the best in their conference over the duration of the year. The consensus seems to be that the Eagles have a deeper, more talented roster than the Chiefs. But Kansas City have Patrick Mahomes, and that may be enough. While Jalen Hurts entered the elite tier of NFL quarterbacks this year, Mahomes is considered the best, and getting him as an underdog in a Super Bowl is too good to pass up. While the Chiefs may struggle to stop the Eagles’ rushing attack, Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offence should keep up with Philadelphia and score a lot of points. And late in the fourth quarter, when it matters most, we simply trust Mahomes more. Take the Chiefs to win in a close battle as Mahomes claims his second Super Bowl.
Kansas City Chiefs to win
Travis Kelce anytime touchdown scorer
Travis Kelce is the motor of this Chiefs offence. He is unquestionably the best tight end in the league and no team has an answer for him. While the Eagles have a lot of talented defenders, stopping Kelce is a difficult proposition and he will find ways to get open. Kelce has 15 touchdowns through 19 games this season and has at least one score in each of Kansas City’s two playoff victories. Kelce is simply too gifted to get shut down, and with Mahomes at the helm, we are confident Kelce will get peppered with targets. Considering we think the Chiefs should score a lot, Kelce to get on the board at -120 is a great value bet.
Travis Kelce anytime touchdown
Jalen Hurts anytime touchdown scorer
Jalen Hurts may not be on Pat Mahomes’ level, but no one is — and Hurts is getting pretty damn close. A major part of that is his rushing talent. Hurts has developed as a passer throughout his years in the NFL, but it is his legs that make him unstoppable. This year, he has 15 rushing touchdowns through 19 games, and his QB sneak on the goal-line is one of the most unstoppable plays in football. The Chiefs’ defensive line may struggle to contain Hurts all game long and he should rack up the rushing yards. And around the endzone, we know Hurts will be in play. Take the young quarterback to score another touchdown and further his impressive rushing record on the biggest stage.
Jalen Hurts anytime touchdown
Marquez Valdes-Scantling receiving yards: Over 37.5
A bunch of the Chiefs’ receivers are out for this game, and that will require some of their other weapons to step up. One of those guys will be Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a burner who really flashed in the AFC Championship Game. On that day, MVS had 116 receiving yards and was one of the few reliable targets for Mahomes. While he typically isn’t one of Mahomes’ favourite targets, he will have to step up in this game if the Chiefs want to keep up with the Eagles. And Valdes-Scantling has the speed to get this over on one play. Take his over for receiving yards and watch him use his speed to break down a stout Eagles defence.
Valdes-Scantling over 37.5 receiving yards
Kenneth Gainwell rushing yards: Over 19.5
Kenneth Gainwell is the backup running back for the Eagles, but recently he has earned more carries. Over the two Eagles playoff games, Gainwell has garnered 26 rushing attempts. If he gets eight carries, this over will hit easily. The Eagles’ offensive line is substantially better than the Chiefs’ and they should be able to run the ball with ease, no matter who is carrying the ball. So, this bet comes down to the coach’s trust in Gainwell, and considering recent games, he should get a good amount of work. Take the Gainwell over as the Eagles wear out a Chiefs defence by running the ball all game long.
Gainwell over 19.5 rushing yards
Patrick Mahomes anytime touchdown scorer
Like his opposite number, Mahomes is a very capable runner. While he doesn’t prefer to run like Hurts, Mahomes will when he needs to, and in big games, he is much more active with his legs. While the star quarterback only has four rushing touchdowns this season, he has five rushing touchdowns in 13 playoff games and tends to tuck it more often when it means the most. And what means more than the Super Bowl? Despite the fact that Mahomes is playing with an ankle injury, he should take opportunities to run, and if they get around the goal-line, Mahomes will put his head down and fight for it. It’s a bit of a longshot, but at +490, it’s a risk worth taking.
Patrick Mahomes anytime touchdown
