New million dollar poker tournament taking place at Sydney Casino

APL Million poker tournament

The Australian Poker League (APL) Million has commenced at the Star Casino in Sydney and players all around the country are aiming to win a share of the $1 million guaranteed prize pool.

The event kicked off on March 8 in the Star casino’s poker room, with 406 poker players from around Australia showing off their skills on the first day.

There were 107 winners who made it to day two, which will take place on Saturday, March 11 where they will compete to qualify for day three on Sunday, March 12.

The finals will take place on Monday, March 13, where three tables will play until a winner takes home first prize of $250,000.

The APL Million is open to everyone who pays the $1500 entry fee and has taken over from the APL’s long-running Main Event which had a first prize of $100,000.

The Main Event moved from Crown Melbourne to Star Sydney last year and had a prize pool of half a million dollars, before being replaced by this years million dollar event.

‘Team Murray’, which includes 32 poker enthusiasts who play weekly in Albury-Wodonga venues, are among those chasing the $250,000 prize.

“We’ve got a great bunch of players from Albury-Wodonga and all along the Murray,” Murray region manager, Michael King, told The Border Morning Mail.

“Knowing any one of them could win this life-changing event is really exciting to think about.

“To go from a nightly event at a local pub or club all the way to fighting it out for a quarter of a million dollars is what every poker player dreams of.”

The event is headlined by WSOP Bracelet Winner Jackie Glazier, who will be sharing her poker experiences at a question and answer an hour before Saturday’s tournaments commence.

All APL players can hear Glazier share her thoughts about long format events and insights into the industry and have the chance to meet her.

There will also be a Player Party which commences at 7PM on day three for all APL Million players, and their plus one. This includes drinks, food and a DJ at The Sky Terrace.

If you can’t make the poker event you can follow the tournaments as they happen live by heading to the APL’s Facebook page here.

APL is a free-to-play poker league which has approximately 750,000 members from around Australia. The APL prides itself on a casino-standard poker experience delivered to local pubs and clubs.

There is expected to be much discussion about the future of poker in Australia, particularly the online type, with 100s of players converging on Sydney for the event.
