Experienced integrated resorts executive David Tsai has commenced in the role of CEO at Crown Perth, after originally being appointed, pending regulatory approval, in October last year.

Tsai, who was formally welcomed to the company with a traditional smoking ceremony led by Noongar man Dr Richard Walley OAM, on Crown Perth’s Great Lawn, is a highly respected leader and brings nearly two decades of integrated resorts experience to Crown Perth, having spent over 15 years with global hospitality and entertainment group, MGM Resorts International.

In his new role, Mr Tsai will lead Crown Perth’s remediation action plan and work with the newly appointed Independent Monitor, Paul Steel, to implement the recommendations of the Perth Casino Royal Commission.

“David is well placed to lead Crown Perth through its next phase and steps into the role as CEO at a pivotal moment in its history,” Crown Resorts CEO Ciarán Carruthers said.

“David’s passion for instigating true cultural change will have an enormous effect and I look forward to working with him and the team at Crown Perth to create exceptional experiences for our guests in Western Australia.”

Tsai has held numerous roles in the gambling industry, with several of the notable ones including President Midwest Group at MGM International, President and COO at MGM’s Gold Strike Casino in Tunica, Mississippi and SVP and Chief Financial Officer at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

One of the biggest success stories Tsai has been involved in was the USD $550m redevelopment of the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, which is now known as Park MGM and NoMad Las Vegas.

“Today is the start of a wonderful journey for me at Crown Perth, and I couldn’t be more excited to be here. Across the industry, Crown Perth stands proud as a world-class property, with premium restaurants, luxury accommodation and exceptional entertainment,” Tsai said.

“I am deeply committed to delivering on our reform and remediation plan and cultural transformation, and ensuring Crown achieves its ambition of becoming a world leader in the delivery of safe and responsible gaming and entertainment.

“I’m privileged by the opportunity to lead our more than 6,000 team members at Crown Perth and share in their understanding and passion for creating exceptional experiences for our guests.”

Crown Perth is the only pokies venue in Western Australia and there is a growing push for other states in Australia to look closely at the model employed in Western Australia.
