NBL R8 betting preview

The NBL continues this weekend with seven matches of quality Australian basketball. See our top betting tips for round eight of the 2023-24 NBL season.

Tasmania JackJumpers vs New Zealand Breakers

Thursday, November 16 – 7:30pm AEDT – Silverdome

Looking to continue their winning form, the JackJumpers welcome the struggling Breakers to the Silverdome to kick off round eight. The JackJumpers have four players averaging over 10 points per game, which will be a major concern for the leaky Breakers defence. NBL leading scorer Parker Jackson-Cartwright will need to be on his game for the Breakers if they are any chance of an upset.

Perth Wildcats vs Cairns Taipans

Thursday, November 16 – 6:30pm AWST – RAC Arena

Entering this match on a three-game winning streak, the Wildcats will be keen to continue their season turnaround. Now at 5-5, Perth are facing a Taipans side that also has an even record (4-4). With Wildcats star guard Bryce Cotton returning to form, it will be an excellent battle as he comes up against the Taipans’ Patrick Miller.

Adelaide 36ers vs South East Melbourne Phoenix

Friday, November 17 – 7pm ACDT – Adelaide Entertainment Centre

With just three wins this season, the challenges continue for the 36ers as they welcome the fourth-placed Phoenix. Having already lost the previous matchup between the sides in Adelaide back in round four, the 36ers will need to bounce back before their season gets away from them. Watch out for Mitch Creek as the dangerous scoring option for SEM, while Alan Williams leads the league in rebounds.

Cairns Taipans vs Tasmania JackJumpers

Saturday, November 18 – 4:30pm AEST – Cairns Convention Centre

After playing on Thursday, both the Taipans and JackJumpers are backing up with their second match of the weekend on Saturday afternoon. With the two sides sitting in the middle of the standings, this game is very important for both — particularly if they come off a defeat earlier in the week. The JackJumpers have held the advantage lately, winning the last two matches between the sides, but they may struggle on the road.

Brisbane Bullets vs Perth Wildcats

Saturday, November 18 – 7pm AEST – Nissan Arena

The Bullets will be looking to break a two-match losing streak when they host the in-form Wildcats. After starting the season on fire, Brisbane have struggled lately, as shown by the form slump of star guard Nathan Sobey. Regardless, they will be confident in their chances after winning their past three matches against the Wildcats, who are also playing their second match of the weekend.

New Zealand Breakers vs Illawarra Hawks

Sunday, November 19 – 4pm NZDT – Spark Arena

Making the trip across the Tasman, the Hawks will take on the Breakers in a match between the bottom two sides in the NBL. Both in dire need of a win to keep their season alive, expect this to be a high-scoring affair between two leaky defences. The Breakers should have the advantage at home, but having played just three days beforehand, the Hawks will be hoping that the NZ team struggles with the workload.

Melbourne United vs Sydney Kings

Sunday, November 19 – 4pm AEDT – John Cain Arena

The Sydney Kings travel to John Cain Arena to take on Melbourne United in a highly anticipated matchup to close out round eight. The Kings, led by MVP candidate Jaylen Adams, are on a three-match winning streak. United have only lost twice all season, while they are expected to regain NBA prospect Luke Travers for this match. Sydney have had the edge recently, winning three of their last four meetings, but them playing away should make this an excellent contest.
