Cleveland Cavaliers to defeat the Indiana Pacers

Yes, we know. The Cavs are seriously struggling. They dropped the final five games of the season to limp into the playoffs and all does not appear to be well in Cleveland. But this is the defending champion. This is LeBron James. If you think they are going to go quietly into the night, we’ve got news for you. There is also method to their madness. Falling to the second seed means they avoid the Washington Wizards until at least the conference finals, a team who has been an achilles heel for them this season. Paul George has been beasting for the Pacers since the all star break, but we can’t see him leading Myles Turner, Jeff Teague and company past LeBron, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love in the playoffs opener, on Cavaliers’ ground.

San Antonio Spurs to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies

You need to be a real basketball purist to get excited about this series. But if you like efficient, defensive minded, share the rock basketball, then this one is for you. The Spurs and Grizzlies seem to meet in the playoffs every year. And every year, it’s the same result. Kawhi Leonard and the Popovic’s to win the opener.

Los Angeles Clippers to defeat the Utah Jazz

There is some serious intrigue around this one, but, for some reason, we feel like the Clippers could pound the Jazz. The Clippers won three of the four meetings between these two teams this season, with the most recent being a 13 point victory that they controlled from start to finish. The Jazz are well led by Gordon Hayward and have a well balanced roster, but the Clippers have the star power and a little bit of underdog status for the first time in a while. We expect them to at least win the first game in this series and probably go through to round two.

Washington Wizards to defeat the Atlanta Hawks

Is it time for the Wiz. We think they can genuinely challenge for the title this year on the back of arguably the second best back court in the NBA in John Wall and Bradley Beal. But they have to get past the pesky Atlanta Hawks and their court general Paul Millsap. The Hawks lack a little lustre for ours and we think this series is going to be short and sweet for the Wizards.

Boston Celtics to defeat the Chicago Bulls

The Boston Celtics have, just this week, been called the worst number one seed in NBA history. The disrespect is real and Isaiah Thomas and his men in green will have heard that message and we expect them to come out with a real chip on their collective shoulders. The Chicago Bulls needed to win on the final day of the regular season and Miami lost to ensure they would make the playoffs. But this is as far as Jimmy Butler and the men from the Windy City are going.

Houston Rockets to defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder

All eyes will be on this match up when the two men most likely for the 2017 NBA Most Valuable Player Award lead their teams into battle. Much has been said about the MVP race between Houston’s James Harden and Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook, with both players churning out historic individual seasons. But all that will be out the window in this series, with wins the only thing that counts. And the Rockets have the runs on the board this season, winning each of their past three encounters and they should be able to extend it to four on their home floor.
