Morphetville set for Moreira magic show on Oaks Day

HE is arguably the world’s most famous jockey, but will the Joao “The Magic Man” Moreira pull a rabbit out of his hat at Morphettville?

Sportsbet.com.au has opened some specialty markets on Moreira’s maiden Morphettville card.

Punters can get $2.80 for Moriera to ride at least one winner, $3.80 to ride two or more while three or more will yield $6.

Those thinking the magic will not make its way to Morphettville will get a return of $5.

In what is a huge boost for South Australian racing, SA Jockey Club Chairman Bodelle Francis said Moreira’s inclusion will ensure plenty of punters turn their eyeballs to Morphetville this Saturday.

“To have a jockey of Moreira’s calibre riding here is a great coup for Adelaide and for Morphettville,” Francis said in a statement.

“Not only that, but to have him riding in our first million-dollar race is exactly the kind of high-profile name we believe our Festival of Racing now has the ability to attract.”

Punters can also stick with champion Victorian trainer Darren Weir after his unbelievable Warrnambool Racing Carnival.

Fresh from a record breaking 14 wins, over the three days at Warrnambool, Weir is $2.80 to train at least one winner, $3.80 for a double and $4.00 to go home without one of his horse’s entering the winner’s circle.

Sportsbet.com.au representative Will Byrne said the Weir and Moreira show should yield results for punters.

“The Magic Man and D.K. Weir are headline acts and they have multiple chances to get among the winners. Joao has eight rides and six of his mounts are in the top two in betting, so $2.80 looks generous,’’ Byrne said.
