Mitchell Moses ‘honoured’ to captain Parramatta Eels in 2025 NRL
Mitchell Moses will captain the Parramatta Eels in the 2025 NRL season, with the news announced on Thursday evening at a club event in Sydney.
The veteran halfback replaces Clint Gutherson as the Eels’ on-field leader after the long-standing captain departed for the St George Illawarra Dragons.
“I am incredibly proud and honoured to be named captain,” Moses said on Thursday.
“This club means so much to me, and it’s a privilege to lead this group of players.
“I have great support around me from the leadership group and coaching staff, and I can’t wait to start the season with them in a few weeks.”
Moses has been a critical component of the Parramatta side for years now, having joined the club in 2017 and assuming the starting role as halfback.
The 30-year-old struggled with injuries during the Eels’ challenging season in 2024, but he made his Kangaroos debut and led the Blues to victory in State of Origin.
New Eels coach Jason Ryles is confident Moses is the captain Parramatta need to perform better in 2025.
“Mitch has shown strong leadership qualities both on and off the field, and I believe he is ready to lead our club into the future,” he said.
“With the support of our leadership group, I’m confident he will continue to grow as a leader.”
Eels chief executive Jim Sarantinos echoed Ryles’ words, confirming his support of the appointment.
“Mitch has been an outstanding player for our club, and we are thrilled to see him step into the role of captain,” he said.
“Mitch’s appointment is an important moment for the club as we move into an exciting new era for our football program.”
After the Eels finished 15th last season, NRL bookmakers have them at $26 to win their fifth premiership in 2025.
Parramatta’s season begins with a clash against the Melbourne Storm on Sunday, March 9, where they are $4 underdogs with Marantelli Bet.
