Maxwell ruled out of South Africa T20I series with ankle injury
Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell will unfortunately miss the Twenty20 series against South Africa due to an ankle injury.
The injury occurred during Australia’s initial training session in Durban.
Maxwell’s absence comes as a setback for Australia as they seek to bounce back from a poor showing in the 2022 Twenty20 World Cup.
The 35-year-old was set to miss the proceeding One Day International series against South Africa, with the Victorian all-rounder returning to Australia for paternity leave.
The upcoming ODI series holds significance as it plays a role in their preparations, for the 2023 ODI World Cup scheduled to take place in India beginning in early October.
‘Maxy’ was Australia’s top run-scorer in their last Twenty20 International, when he compiled an unbeaten 54 off 32 balls against Afghanistan at Adelaide Oval on November 4.
It will be a new look Australian T20I side for the upcoming series in South Africa, with the first of three T20I fixtures commencing on Thursday morning at 2am AEST.
