La Liga Matchday 23 soccer tips, free betting predictions & odds
This weekend, La Liga action continues with 10 high-quality Spanish soccer matches headlined by ‘The Madrid Derby’ between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Here are our previews and tips for Matchday 23 of the 2023/24 La Liga season:
Athletic Club vs Mallorca
Saturday, February 3 – 7:00am AEDT – San Mames Barria
After dropping points in their last two matches, Athletic Club have now lost touch with the top four. Still comfortably in fifth, the Basque side should return to winning ways as they welcome 15th-placed Mallorca. Winless in their past four, it shouldn’t get much easier for the relegation candidate here, who should struggle to even hit the scoreboard as one of the worst attacks in La Liga.
Athletic Bilbao Win to Nil
Valencia vs Almeria
Sunday, February 4 – 2:00pm AEDT – Estadio de Mestalla
Despite going down to Atletico Madrid last weekend, Valencia are having an excellent season as they chase a top-four spot. On a four-match win streak before last weekend, Valencia should get back to form as they welcome the winless Almeria. With the odds skewed in favour of the eighth-placed side, look for both teams to score, which has happened in the last seven clashes.
Valencia Win / Both Teams to Score
Granada vs Las Palmas
Sunday, February 4 – 2:15pm AEDT – Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes
Unable to hold on to their lead against Real Madrid last weekend, Las Palmas head to Granada this weekend as they look to keep their faint top-six hopes alive. As the second-best defensive side in the competition, expect a cagey affair with limited chances at both ends. However, with the home side conceding 25 more goals this season, it is hard to see them holding out Las Palmas here.
Las Palmas Win
Deportivo Alaves vs Barcelona
Sunday, February 4 – 6:30pm CET – Estadio de Mendizorroza
Returning to the top four with a midweek win over Osasuna, Barcelona faces a tricky away trip to face the in-form Deportivo Alaves. Winners of their past three La Liga matches, Alaves have worked their way out of the relegation fight. While the home side come in with a lot of confidence, it is hard to see them getting the win here as they haven’t beaten Barcelona since 2016.
Barcelona Win
Girona vs Real Sociedad
Sunday, February 4 – 7:00am AEDT – Estadi Municipal de Montilivi
Still sitting just two points behind leaders Real Madrid, Girona have to keep winning in order to stay in the title race. At home this weekend, Girona faces a tricky test against fellow top-four side Real Sociedad. After the two sides battled out a tense 1-1 draw earlier in the season, we are expecting another close clash here as Girona looks to break a seven-match winless streak against Real Sociedad. As two of the highest-scoring sides in La Liga, backing the overs here shapes as the safest bet.
Over 2.5 Goals
Villarreal vs Cadiz
Sunday, February 4 – 12:00am CET – Estadio de la Ceramica
Coming off an incredible 5-3 away victory over Barcelona last weekend, Villarreal should come into this clash full of confidence as they look set to jump clear of the relegation fight. Since beating Villarreal 3-1 back in September, Cadiz have now gone 18 matches without a win and have slipped into the drop zone. With the match being held in Villarreal, the home side here is too strong.
Villarreal Win
Osasuna vs Celta Vigo
Monday, February 5 – 2:15am AEDT – Estadio El Sadar
After their midweek defeat to Barcelona, Osasuna returns home on Sunday to welcome relegation contenders Celta Vigo. With neither side entering this match in great form, picking a winner here could be tough. As a result, with neither team keeping a clean sheet in their past five matches, look for both teams to score.
Both Teams To Score
Real Betis vs Getafe
Monday, February 5 – 4:30am AEDT – Estadio Benito Villamarin
Playing their third match of the week following mixed results against Real Madrid and Granada, Getafe will find their squad depth tested with a tough away trip to Seville. Facing Real Betis, who have just one home loss all season, Getafe will need to put in one of their top performances of the season to test the top six contenders. However, after the reverse fixture ended 1-1, it is hard to see Betis dropping points once again.
Real Betis win
Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid
Monday, February 5 – 7:00am AEDT – Estadio Santiago Bernabeu
Facing each other for the third time in a month, ‘The Madrid Derby’ has plenty on the line once again. On top of the table, Real Madrid will be looking to avenge their 4-2 defeat two weeks ago that saw them eliminated from the Copa del Rey. Atletico also has plenty on the line as they look to secure their top four position. With the match being held at the Bernabeu, it is hard to bet against the home side with the leading betting sites, who need the win to keep ahead of Girona.
Real Madrid win
Rayo Vallecano vs Sevilla
Tuesday, February 6 – 7:00am AEDT – Campo de Futbol de Vallecas
Winless in their past five matches, Sevilla are genuinely at risk of going down, as they sit just one point clear of relegation. Facing a trip to Madrid to face Rayo Vallecano, they meet a side in similarly bad form, with just one win from their past 12 matches. With recent history between the sides showing three draws from the past four matches, backing these sides to continue their poor stretch of form seems likely here.
