Katrina Gorry declares fitness for Matildas’ Olympic campaign
Katrina Gorry has confirmed that she is fully recovered and ready to join the Matildas Olympic journey following a comeback from an ankle injury that initially cast doubt on her participation in the 2024 Paris Games.
The talented midfielder sustained the ankle injury while playing for West Ham in the English Women’s Super League back in March, leading to a procedure later in the month.
Despite not being part of Australia’s squad for the matches against China on May 31 and June 3, Gorry was included in the Matildas group of 18 players set to compete in Paris, where they are currently $15 with the top online bookmakers.
Gorry has been back in training at full capacity for a week now, ahead of the Matildas’ preparation match against Canada on Sunday morning (AEST) in Marbella, Spain.
She expressed her joy at being able to return to camp, emphasising that her ankle is recovering well.
Reflecting on the previous months, Gorry acknowledged it had been a whirlwind period but expressed appreciation for the encouragement she received during her healing process.
Now a mother of two, Gorry is set to make her comeback at the Olympics in Paris, having missed the Tokyo Games three years ago due to her pregnancy and the birth of her daughter, Harper.
During her time away from soccer, Gorry has been determined to extend her international career post-Paris, eyeing the 2026 Women’s Asian Cup held in Australia as an opportunity.
