Judge’s decision on Vic racing cobalt leak

Former Racing Victoria chairman David Moodie wants a judge to quash a finding that he leaked information during cobalt investigations.

Victorian Supreme Court Justice Kevin Bell will hand down his decision in the racehorse owner and breeder’s judicial review on Tuesday.

Moodie wants the judge to overturn Victorian racing integrity commissioner Sal Perna’s “devastating” findings, arguing Perna exceeded his powers.

Moodie was cleared of being the original source of the January 2015 leak about the positive cobalt results for Flemington trainers Mark Kavanagh and Danny O’Brien’s horses.

But Perna found the then RV board member inappropriately disclosed information that compromised the investigation and misled the RV integrity council and board about what he told his trainer Peter Moody.
