Josh Inglis century leads Australia to Champions Trophy win

Josh inglis century leads Aus to victory

Australia beat England in a 707-run Champions Trophy slugfest in Lahore on Saturday, with a blazing century by Josh Inglis spearheading the five-wicket victory.

England came into the match as underdogs across cricket betting sites but quickly piled on an impressive score thanks to Ben Duckett’s 165 from 143 at the top of the order.

The opener found company from Joe Root (68) for the lion’s share of his innings, with Phil Salt (10), Jamie Smith (15) and Harry Brook (3) unable to stick around for long.

Captain Jos Buttler (23) got a start but it was largely left to Duckett and the bowlers to build England’s total after Root was dismissed.

They did so excellently, adding dragging the world No.7s through to 8/351 from their 50 overs.

In response, Australia were in trouble early, losing two quick wickets to sit at 2/27 after just four 4.1 overs.

However, Matthew Short (63) and Marnus Labuschagne (47) rebuilt nicely to take their side through to 2/122 in the 20th over.

While both exited soon after, this laid the platform for Inglis (120*) and Alex Carey (69) to form the match-winning partnership.

The pair put on 146 runs for the fifth wicket, swinging live betting odds from England’s favour to Australia’s.

Inglis would go on to carry his bat – with a strike rate just shy of 140 – and take Australia across the finish line alongside the big-hitting Glenn Maxwell, who bludgeoned a rapid-fire 32* from 15 to cap off what was the highest successful run chase in ICC events.

“The guys were outstanding,” Australian captain Steve Smith said.

“It slowed up in the first innings and we thought 350 was chaseable.

“Looked like they’d get 400 but we trusted each other’s skills, took pace off at the right times, hit hard lengths, squeezed and controlled the back end.

“Marnus (Labuschagne) bowled nicely too and took a few wickets.

“The two keepers have been batting beautifully, in great form, Josh (Inglis) didn’t get out of second gear, shots all round the ground.

“I don’t know if Josh still has an English passport, but he’s not going anywhere!”

Cricket bookmakers have shortened Australia’s odds of winning the 2025 Champions Trophy as a result of their victory over England.

Marantelli Bet prices the world No.2s at $4.33 to claim the title, while India remain favourites to win the tournament at $2.37 and New Zealand sit on the third line of betting at $5.50.

England, meanwhile, have lengthened to $13 to win the Champions Trophy, the fifth line of betting.
