India edge out New Zealand to win Champions Trophy

India win Champions Trophy

India defeated New Zealand by four wickets to win the 2025 Champions Trophy final on Sunday in Dubai, with captain Rohit Sharma top-scoring in a chase of 252.

In doing so, India lived up to their pre-tournament favourites tag across leading bookmakers, with most cricket betting sites pricing them at $2.40 to win ahead of the event starting in late February.

The world No.1 team also came into the final as heavy favourites, paying $1.40 with Marantelli Bet to beat New Zealand and maintain their perfect record this tournament.

The Black Caps made them work hard for their victory, posting 251/7 after opting to bat first.

But a 105-run opening partnership between Rohit (76) and Shubman Gill (31) gave India the platform they needed to go on and chase down the target, particularly given the Kiwi bowling lineup was weakened with no Matt Henry.

While the in-form Virat Kohli (1) fell soon after New Zealand broke India’s initial stand, Shreyas Iyer (48), Axar Patel (29), KL Rahul (34*) and Hardik Pandya all came to the crease and contributed to the Indian cause.

Despite India being in control for the majority of the chase, it went down to the penultimate over, with Ravindra Jadeja (9*) hitting the winning runs.

“Very satisfying win,” Rohit said after the match.

“Right from the beginning our spinners… there is too much expectation, but they never disappointed.

“It helped them and we used that to our advantage.

“We were very consistent with our bowling.”

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner was realistic in his post-match comments, praising both India and his own team.

“It’s been a good tournament,” he said.

“We have been challenged along the way and the way we have grown as a group.

“We lost to a better side today.

“Everyone contributed to the tournament and put their hands up at different times.

“It has been very enjoyable. Made easy by the group.

“Different guys stepping up at different times makes it easy.

“We have had a few challenges but we have adapted.”
