ICC charges eight in the Abu Dhabi T10 League corruption case
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken decisive action against corruption in the sport, announcing charges against eight players, officials, and team owners for breaching anti-corruption rules during the T10 cricket league.
The charges stem from the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League, where attempts to corrupt matches were thwarted but have now resulted in charges. Among the accused is Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain, facing allegations of failing to disclose a gift worth over $750, withholding corruption approach details, and non-cooperation with the investigation.
Sri Lanka’s Saliya Saman is also implicated, accused of attempting to fix matches, offering rewards to influence outcomes, and facilitating contrived matches. Rizwan Javed faces multiple charges as well.
Additionally, coaching staff and team co-owners are entangled in the same case. Krishan Kumar Chaudhary and Parag Sanghvi, co-owners of the Pune Devils, are charged with various infractions, including passing information on corrupt activities and obstructing investigations. Sanghvi is also accused of betting with bookmakers on cricket matches.
Provisional suspensions have been imposed on six of the accused, with a 14-day window to respond to the charges. The outcome for Nasir Hossain and team manager Shadab Ahamed remains uncertain.
This crackdown on cricket corruption follows a recent case involving West Indies cricketer Devon Thomas, who faced similar charges and provisional suspension, underscoring the ICC’s commitment to preserving the integrity of the sport.
