The KFC BBL travels south to Hobart where the Melbourne Stars will meet the Hurricanes for the first time since their first match of the season. The Stars squad has changed drastically since that match, as has the Hurricanes, as both teams look to push into the top five on the ladder for the BBL finals.
The Stars will be without Marcus Stoinis and Trent Boult who are missing through injury and the ending of their season in the BBL respectively. The Hurricanes are going to be without Paddy Dooley, Jimmy Neesham and Shadab Khan for similar reasons.
The Stars have lost all their key international players ahead of what has become a stretch of must-win games for the franchise. The Hurricanes are positioned slightly better than the Stars on the ladder and are yet to lose a game in Tasmania. The Hobarts are a great value bet to win this match paying $1.70.
Ben McDermott’s rocketed into excellent form for the Hurricanes in the last week with two half centuries in three innings at the top of the order. He has finally adjusted back to Australian conditions to lead this Hurricanes batting line up from the top of the order, enabling them to put big scores on the board. McDermott is hard to stop when he’s in good form, he’ll enjoy going back Blundstone Arena where he batted well against the Striker recently and should be the leading run scorer for the Hurricanes at $4 with the top cricket betting sites.
.
The last time the Hurricanes were at Blundstone Arena, Nathan Ellis was the man taking the wickets for the home side which ultimately led to their win. Ellis removed the incredibly dangerous Matt Short, as well as Colin De Grandhomme who was also hitting them well. Ellis bowls brilliant variation and has an unmatched energy in the BBL. He will be the man to stand up for the Hurricanes and take 2+ wickets paying $2.50.
KEY MATCH UP: JOE CLARKE v JOEL PARIS
The match up at the top of the Stars batting innings will be brilliant to see how Clarke handles the swinging new ball. Paris is notorious for swinging the ball back into the right hander, as well as pushing the ball across them, which will pose many issues for Clarke. The Stars import has been in poor form since New Years Eve recording a golden duck, and 12 runs and slower than a-run-a-ball. Clarke scorer 101 not out when these two sides met at the start of the season, while Paris struggled with the ball, and the Stars will be hoping for a similar display from Clarke to lead the franchise to a late BBL Finals birth.
