Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians match preview
The Indian Premier League continues to deliver with high drama, and Sunday’s (AEDT) clash between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians promises to be another firecracker.
Both teams are still looking for their first win of the 2025 campaign, and with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad expected to be another run-feast, this could be a thriller.
Gujarat came close in their season opener, chasing 243 against Punjab Kings before falling 11 runs short.
There were standout performances with the bat from Sai Sudharsan (74 off 41), Jos Buttler (54 off 33), and Sherfane Rutherford (46 off 28), but their bowlers struggled under pressure.
Rabada and Rashid Khan were both expensive, with Sai Kishore the only real positive, taking 3/30.
Mumbai also suffered a defeat, going down to Chennai Super Kings in a low-scoring contest in Chepauk.
Their top-order looked shaky, though Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) chipped in. The major highlight was debutant spinner Vignesh Puthur, who picked up 3/32 and could be crucial again on what’s likely to be a truer surface in Ahmedabad.
All eyes will be on Hardik Pandya, who returns to Gujarat after rejoining MI. Expect a few extra fireworks given the recent history.
Gujarat still have a strong core, but without Shami and with questions over their middle and lower order, MI may fancy their chances — especially if they bat first.
Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians predictions
This might come down to the toss. But with Gujarat’s bowling lacking edge and MI having more firepower if SKY plays, the visitors have the better all-round squad. Hardik Pandya knows the Ahmedabad pitch inside-out, and his leadership will be crucial. MI look a little more balanced, especially with the bat, and could take control if they post a big total first.
Shubman Gill has an outstanding record at this venue, with three IPL centuries here and nearly 1,000 career runs. He looked sharp against Punjab before being dismissed for 33 and will be keen to go bigger this time. If GT are to be competitive, their skipper needs to lead from the front — and he has all the tools to deliver. The +110 with BetOnline to cross 30 runs again looks a great play.
Trent Boult’s ability to strike early with the new ball makes him a strong contender to be Mumbai’s top wicket-taker in this one. On a flat Ahmedabad deck, dismissals in the powerplay are crucial, and Boult’s left-arm angle and swing could trouble GT’s top order. He’s a proven IPL performer and offers good value at +290.
