Round 22 Result:
Port Adelaide Power: Loss to Collingwood, 115 – 64
Essendon Bombers: Loss to Richmond, 81 – 73
The final Friday night match of the 2018 AFL home and away season will see Port Adelaide and Essendon duke it out at Adelaide Oval for one final chance to sing the team song.
Neither the Bombers nor the Power have any chance to make the finals. Port Adelaide can hope and pray to sneak in with its mathematical chance, but the reality is, three consecutive heart-breaking losses have all but ended their chances of playing in September.
Essendon will rue its losses from earlier in the season to the Blues, Bulldogs and Dockers — all disappointing results that made its finals chances a long-shot, despite an exciting second half of the season.
Despite having won two of the last three games between the sides, Essendon will surrender favouritism against Port, who host the match at Adelaide Oval.
This match means very little for the competition as a whole, but for the respect and pride of each club, we’re still expecting a hard-fought affair.
Port Adelaide Power vs. Essendon Bombers Round 23 – Total Goals Tips
Port Adelaide Power 12.5 Over/Under
Over @ $1.71
Before the match fell apart in the last quarter, the Power were playing very well and kept up with the Magpies for a majority of the match. Kicking a solitary goal in the final term wasn’t the best way to close out the match. The Power still managed to kick 10 goals in their 51-point loss, which is a fair effort. When the Power go head to head with the Bombers, we expect them to play better and find more consistent avenues to goal.
Essendon Bombers 11.5 Over/Under
Under @ $1.98
When the chance to make finals was still alive and burning brightly last week, the Bombers only managed to kick 11 goals. Richmond played without its fullback Davis Astbury and still negated the Bombers impact on the scoreboard. When the Dons come up against the Power backline, they will find it difficult to score, as they work together very well and excel in rebounding outside their defensive 50. Still being without live-wire Orazio Fantasia due to a hamstring is a massive out that ruins the chemistry entirely.
Port Adelaide Power vs. Essendon Bombers Round 23 – Disposal Tips
Justin Westhoff to get 20 + Disposals @ $1.62
Justin Westhoff would have been in best-on-ground conversations last week, despite the loss to the Magpies. Westhoff laid 10 tackles and found the footy 22 times in his role playing in the back six. If the Bombers do not pay attention to Westhoff across the entire ground, he can easily tear games apart with his aerobic capacity and ability to win the football. Westhoff has easily been one of the best players for the Power all season.
Brendon Goddard to get 25 + Disposals @ $2.40
This will possibly be the last match Brendon Goddard plays for an AFL team. Knowing his competitive never-say-die attitude, Goddard will certainly play it out until the very end. Goddard has the capacity to take control over a football match and possibly find the footy well over 30 times over the course of the night. The healthy odds at 25 disposals are good enough to use for this Friday night. It would be a brilliant way to end a stunning and long career for the champion.
Port Adelaide Power vs. Essendon Bombers Round 23 – First to Tip
First team to 50 points
Port Adelaide Power @ $1.66
Under the lights at Adelaide Oval the Power often ascend to new heights. The likes of Robbie Gray and Chad Wingard will want to end the year on a high note and will cause problems for the Bombers’ defence. The Power started very well against the Pies and will bring the same intensity to this match as well.
Power vs. Bombers Match Predictions
Match Result: Port Adelaide Power to win @ $1.60
Line Betting: Port Adelaide Power – 8.5 @ $1.92
The Power’s strength at home is enough to justify the tip and line bet. We expect them to get the job done on their home deck.
