Geelong delist AFL Grand Final player, father-son pick
The Geelong Cats have cut three players from their senior list after failing to reach the 2023 AFL finals series.
Chief among those is Sam Simpson, who played in Geelong’s 2020 AFL Grand Final loss to Richmond.
The 25-year-old managed only six games this season, finishing his time at Kardinia Park with 25 senior appearances to his name.
Cooper Whyte made his AFL debut in round two this year, but that would end up being his only outing for the club.
The Geelong Falcons product was taken with pick 64 in the 2021 national draft.
Also among the casualties is Osca Riccardi, son of club hero Peter Riccardi.
Signed via the rookie draft last year, the diminutive defender-cum-forward did not feature for the Cats at senior level.
After winning the 2022 AFL Grand Final in emphatic fashion, Geelong slid to 12th on the ladder this year.
