Finding winners in the Round 8 AFL Multi of the Week
WE are only seven weeks into the AFL season, but it looks like we are already down to just ten teams who can realistically make finals this campaign.
North sit one game clear at the top of the ladder, but with a percentage that is the worst out of the teams positioned first to fifth, they will need to continue on their winning ways if they are to ensure they get a double chance this season.
The Kangaroos sit on the fifth line of betting to make the top-4 this season at $1.90.
This week we are investing our money in a few teams that have scolded us in recent weeks, but we have complete faith that those results were aberrations.
The Pies and the Power owe us big time after letting us down over the last month, but we are expecting both teams to register wins at decent odds to boost our value.
All odds this week are provided by Sportsbet.com.au,who are offering anyone looking to open a new account a matched first bet offer up to the value of $501.
The Round 8 AFL multi of the week:
Collingwood to defeat Brisbane ($1.95)
Port Adelaide to beat Carlton ($1.48)
Western Bulldogs to defeat Melbourne ($1.45)
West Coast to defeat St Kilda ($1.13)
Multi value: $4.72 @ Sportsbet.com.au
Brisbane vs. Collingwood
Saturday, May 14 from 7.25pm at the GABBA, Brisbane
Brisbane and Collingwood clash at the GABBA to kick off our multi this weekend, and we are backing the Pies to bounce back after a disappointing loss last time out against the Blues.
Collingwood lost to Carlton for this first time since 2012.
A number of their best players were well down on their regular output, and it is hard to imagine that some of their prime movers will be that poor back-to-back this season.
The Lions were brave for a half against the Power last week at Adelaide Oval, but they fell apart last in the game by 77-points.
Luckless Lions captain Tom Rockliff will miss at least another fortnight of football after another soft tissue injury which is a huge blow for the home side who were smashed in the midfield last week.
The Pies have won four of the last five match ups between the two sides by an average winning margin of 34 points and we are backing the black and white army to kick our multi off in the right fashion.
Multi tip: Collingwood to win – $1.95
Carlton vs. Port Adelaide
Sunday, May 15 from 1.10pm at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne
We move to Sunday a bit earlier than usual this week, but given how short the favourites are on Saturday, we had no choice but to look for value at the end of the weekend.
The resurgent Blues host the white-hot Power in a match that both teams will be supremely confident of winning given their recent records.
The Power crushed the Lions last week and looked to have turned the corner – but Ken Hinkley’s men remain $3.00 outsiders to make the eight over at Sportsbet.com.au.
Port have won two of the last three matches between the two sides by an average of 68 points, and while Carlton’s last three weeks has been exceptional, they will struggle to contain Charlie Dixon.
Port should snap Carlton’s three game win streak and keep themselves in contention for a finals position.
Multi tip: Port Adelaide to win – $1.48
Melbourne vs. Western Bulldogs
Saturday, May 15 from 3.20pm at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne
Two of the league’s most exciting teams meet at the home of football on Sunday afternoon.
The Western Bulldogs sit inside the top four after seven weeks and they are unlucky not to be even higher after narrowly losing to both the Hawks and the Kangaroos.
This will be only the fifth time the Dogs have played at the MCG since the beginning of 2014.
The Demons have turned themselves into a true attacking threat this season.
Only three teams above Melbourne have scored more points this campaign – highlighting exactly why the Dees are in the finals hunt for the first time in almost a decade.
The Dogs have won four of the last six matches at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against the Demons – even when the Bulldogs were at their worst – and we are expecting them to continue their domination over the Dees at the G.
Multi tip: Western Bulldogs to win – $1.45
West Coast vs. St Kilda
Sunday, May 15 from 4.40pm at Domain Stadium, Perth
West Coast and St Kilda clash on Sunday night in a match that potentially could be the match of the round.
The Saints have been highly competitive this season, and had it not been for some dubious umpiring decisions late in matches against Hawthorn and North Melbourne they could be right in the mix for the finals.
The Eagles have been Jekyll and home this season and Hyde away.
Adam Simpson’s men have been formidable at Domain Stadium but dreadful away from Perth – luckily for him this match is played in Western Australia.
The Saints have not beaten West Coast since 2011 and given the Eagles have only lost twice at Domain Stadium in two years – we are not expecting that form to be broken on Sunday night.
The Eagles will finish off our multi in style.
Multi tip: West Coast to win – $1.13
