The final game of round four in the 2022 NRL Premiership sees the Parramatta Eels take on the St George Illawarra Dragons at CommBank Stadium.
There have been two draws to go with 20 victories by Parramatta in 37 games at their new home ground, which will shock no-one as they’re the red-hot favourite in this match. What may surprise some is that the Dragons have won the last two matches between these two storied clubs.
Parramatta have started 2022 in red hot form beating the Storm last week in Melbourne, after losing narrowly to the Sharks in Cronulla and beating the Titans in an absolute shoot out. The Dragons are the more interesting side in this matchup, however, as they have been right in the contest with both Penrith and Cronulla, before second rower Jaydn Su’a was sin binned and all but ruined their chances. Outside of Su’a’s ill-discipline, the Dragons forward pack has been one of the most aggressive in the NRL this season, and one of many reasons the Dragons represent great value in this match.
While the Dragons have conceded 72 points so far this season, 18 of those were during the 10-minute period that Su’a was off the field last week against the Sharks. When all 13 men are on the field for St George, it’s effort areas like line speed and cover defence the Dragons excel at, something coach Anthony Griffin has clearly drilled into them over the off-season. Pair this with an 87% completion rate and the inclusion of veteran forward Aaron Woods off the bench, and be assured the standards this Dragons unit has set defensively will be maintained throughout the match.

Should the Dragons go on to win this match, it will be by a margin similar to their last two matches, meaning the 1-12 point win at $4.20 with BetOnline is great value.
Parramatta love playing at their new home stadium, and no-one more so than captain Clint Gutherson. This season he’s scored one try, broken six tackles and breached the opposition defensive line three times. In his first game at home for 2022, in a season many are saying is Parramatta’s best chance to win a premiership for some time, Gutherson looks a great value play of $11 to score the first try of the match.
From there, Mathew Feagai has been included in this Dragons side on the wing to replace Cody Ramsay. This suggests the Dragons want to balance their attacking options and take away the reliance they have on Fijian flyer Mikaele Ravalawa to score all their points. At $2.50, Feagai is another great value play in this match to score a try at any time.
Key matchup: Eels forwards vs Dragons forwards
This match on Sunday will be won and lost in the middle third of the field. While Parramatta have a host of representative forwards, such as Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Junior Paulo, they will go into Sunday knowing they need to provide a true 80-minute performance to beat the Dragons. Coming off the back of their game against the Storm in Melbourne, that could prove a lot harder than first thought. What also must be considered is the extended 10-day turnaround the Dragons have had since their last game against the Sharks. Both factors will have an immense impact on either forward pack and should prove to be the difference between winning and losing on Sunday.
Eels vs Dragons match predictions
While Parramatta’s record at home is imperious, it is impossible to ignore the value about St George Illawarra to knick this one. Take the $4.20 for the Dragons by 1-12 points.

The Dragons will win this by 12 or less, after Clint Gutherson scores the first try of the match and Mathew Feagai scores at any time. This churns out an incredible $142.31 with BetOnline.
