Round 15: Eels v Roosters preview

The Parramatta Eels will host the high-flying Sydney Roosters at CommBank Stadium in a Saturday night blockbuster for round 15 of the NRL Premiership.

The Eels have lost four of their last five matches, including their defeat at the hands of an under-strength Bulldogs side last weekend. However, they are a much better side with Mitchell Moses at halfback, who will likely be playing to secure a start for New South Wales in game two of State of Origin.

Meanwhile, the Roosters will be coming off the bye, having suffered a humiliating loss to a North Queensland Cowboys side without its representative players at Allianz Stadium a fortnight ago.

Eels interim coach Trent Barrett has shuffled his starting side, welcoming Maika Sivo back onto the wing, shifting Sean Russell to the centres, and pushing Daejarn Asi back to the bench and Wiremu Greig to the reserves. Makahesi Makatoa has again been named on the interchange but could be replaced late by Ryan Matterson, who has been named in the reserves.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson has named his representative stars to return from the Origin arena. Although Joseph-Aukuso Sua’ali’i is suspended, James Tedesco captains from fullback, Joseph Manu lines up in the centres, Lindsay Collins starts in the middle, Angus Crichton rejoins the back row, and Spencer Leniu is on the bench.

Robinson has also dropped hooker Brandon Smith, but Connor Watson returns from a throat issue to start. Siua Wong, Sitili Tupouniua, Michael Jennings and Blake Steep all drop out of the side.

Parramatta Eels v Sydney Roosters R15 free predictions

Easts have won four of their last five clashes with Parramatta. They have also covered the points line as favourites in each of their last six matches against the Eels, who have lost six of their last seven games. With more explosive talent scattered across the park, the safest bet is taking the Roosters to cover the -6.5 handicap at -111.11 with top NRL bookies.

Before their round 13 loss, the Roosters had scored 30 or more points in each of their five prior matches. Some 10 of the last 12 clashes between these two sides have gone over the total points line, and there is a very good chance this one will eclipse the 51.5 line as well (-111.11).

Blaize Talagi has had an incredible debut season for the Eels, scoring five tries in eight matches across the backline. He’s scored a try in each of his last four starting appearances, and if the points are to come from anywhere for Parramatta, it will be through a Talagi try (+120).
