Eels v Cowboys NRL R6 match preview
Super Saturday for round six of the 2024 NRL Premiership continues in Parramatta with the Eels hosting the North Queensland Cowboys at CommBank Stadium.
The Eels lost to the Tigers by one point a fortnight ago before travelling to Canberra and being belted by the Raiders. On the other hand, the Cowboys bounced back from a drubbing by the Broncos to beat the Titans by 13 points in Townsville last week.
Parramatta Eels coach Brad Arthur has swung the selection axe, dropping star winger Maika Sivo and young half Blaize Talagi from the starting side. Bailey Simonsson returns on the wing, with Daejarn Asi called up for his first NRL game in 2024. Bryce Cartwright has been named to start in the second row despite a rib injury, so Ryan Matterson could be a last-minute addition to the run-on side.
North Queensland Cowboys coach Todd Payten has been forced to replace the injured Zac Laybutt (knee), with Thomas Chester being called into the starting side. The remainder of the North Queensland team is unchanged.

Eels v Cowboys NRL R6 betting predictions
Parramatta have won each of their last seven matches at CommBank Stadium against teams ranked higher on the ladder. However, the Cowboys have been one of the form sides of the NRL this season, while the Eels have struggled majorly with injuries. This creates great value for the Cowboys cover the -3.5 handicap at $1.90 with top NRL bookmakers.
Cowboys centre Valentine Holmes will be marking up against Morgan Harper, who has some well-documented defensive issues against strong ball-carriers. Holmes has recorded a whopping 22 tackle breaks, three line breaks and two tries already this season. He will only need time and space with the ball in hand to beat Harper and record his first tryscoring double of the season ($11).
Scott Drinkwater’s last three weeks have reignited conversations about his inclusion in New South Wales’ State of Origin squad. The North Queensland fullback has scored four tries, including a double last weekend against the Titans, to go with multiple line breaks and tackle breaks. Should the Cowboys get on the front foot and roll through the middle third of the field, expect Drinkwater to pop up on the ball and score a try at any time ($2.45).
