The NRL’s Anzac round continues on Friday night in Darwin with the Eels hosting the Brisbane Broncos at TIO Stadium. The second fixture between these two sides in the Northern Territory, Eels fans will fondly remember the 46-6 belting they gave the Broncos two years ago.
The Parramatta Eels will be welcoming back off-season recruit Josh Hodgson to the starting hooker role, with Makahesi Makatoa shifting back to the reserves in an otherwise unchanged line-up. The Broncos will regain Queensland winger Corey Oates (jaw) and starting prop Thomas Flegler (concussion) from injury, pushing Jesse Arthars and Keenan Palasia out of the starting 17.
This Broncos team is vastly different to the side the Eels played in their last match in Brisbane, as well as the side they took on in their only match at TIO Stadium. Since then, the likes of Reece Walsh, Selwyn Cobbo and Martin Taupau have come in and made a significant impact at Red Hill.
Both sides are coming off a last-start win, and while history is relatively even between these two in recent years, the form of the Broncos in 2023 has been phenomenal. At $1.70 with Marantelli Bet, the Broncos are a brilliant value bet to continue their hot start to the 2023 NRL season.

Oates, a mainstay of this Broncos side for a decade, has shown in recent years he has an incredible knack for scoring tries on the left edge against the Eels. His return to the starting side can only strengthen the Brisbane attack with his ability to leap for cross-field kicks and dive inside corner posts to score. Oates will be taking on the inexperienced Haze Dunster, who has already missed half the tackles he has attempted this season in first grade. Look for Oates to score a try at any time in the match in a dream return from injury ($1.82).
Walsh, in such a short period of time this season, has catapulted into State of Origin contention with the possibility of replacing Kalyn Ponga at fullback for the Maroons. Scoring four tries and setting up a further eight, he has been one of the most electric attacking players in the NRL and a key part of Brisbane’s success to start the season. If not from set plays, Walsh can score from anywhere on the park with his incredible support play and awareness. If this match gets ugly for the Eels, Walsh will surely cross the try line at some point as the points stack up ($2.15).
A few of the recent matches between these two sides have been incredibly high scoring, with each of their last three matches alone exceeding 50 points. Look for this trend to continue, not only through the offensive ability of the Broncos, but players like Mitchell Moses, Dylan Brown and Maika Sivo for the Eels. Weather predictions look promising for an up-tempo, exciting brand of NRL footy that should see more than 42.5 points scored ($1.90).

Recent reports suggest the Eels have paid in excess of $1 million for Mitch Moses until the end of 2028, yet Parramatta sit outside of the top eight having recorded two of their three wins over a very poor Tigers outfit and injury-ravaged Bulldogs squad. Fans and club officials would be expecting a lot more from Moses, in a similar mould to the type of output Adam Reynolds has had this season for the league leaders. Another loss for Moses could call into question his position at the club as well as his value in comparison to someone like Reynolds – who is, by all reports, paid far less and producing much more.
