Eels re-sign Mitchell Moses as club ends player options

Parramatta Eels star Mitchell Moses

Parramatta Eels superstar Mitchell Moses has officially re-signed with the club on a new deal that will keep him in the blue and gold until the end of the 2029 NRL season.

The 30-year-old halfback, who originally joined the Eels in 2017, had previously signed a contract in 2023 that included player options for his future beyond 2026.

However, Eels powerbrokers moved to remove those clauses, securing their captain on a long-term agreement.

“Mitch has been in consistently good form for many years now but none better than 2024,” Eels general manager of football Mark O’Neill said in a club statement.

“The way he performed in Origin last year was outstanding and proved that he belongs in that arena.

“Being recently appointed captain continues the evolution of his development and is a very proud moment for him, his family, and our club. Having a player of Mitch’s calibre commit the rest of his career to the Eels is fantastic news for his teammates, our partners, members, and the entire Eels community.”

The news comes as speculation continues over the future of Moses’ halves partner Dylan Brown, who remains contracted to the Eels until 2031 but has multiple player options in his deal.

Brown has until Round 10 of this year to activate his clause for 2026, with rival rugby league clubs circling and reports suggesting the Newcastle Knights have tabled a ten-year, $13 million offer to lure him away.

Moses’ re-signing provides much-needed stability for new coach Jason Ryles as he embarks on his first season in charge.

The experienced playmaker, who has established himself as one of the game’s premier halfbacks, played a key role in the Blues’ State of Origin campaign last year and remains central to Parramatta’s plans moving forward.

Despite battling foot pain from an injury sustained last March, Moses is expected to line up in the Eels’ season opener against the Melbourne Storm next Sunday where the are currently $3.60 odds to win the top NRL bookmakers.

The club’s decision to lock in Moses long-term aligns with a broader shift in contract policy, with the Eels no longer offering player options in deals.

New chairman Matthew Beach recently confirmed the stance, stating, “We have not entered into a player contract with an option since May 2023, and we will not be issuing player options going forward.”

With Moses’ future now settled, attention will turn to securing Brown and ensuring Parramatta retains its core playmaking duo for years to come.
