Round 10: Dolphins v Sea Eagles match preview

Thursday night football for round 10 of the 2024 NRL Premiership features a top-eight clash with the Dolphins hosting the Manly Sea Eagles at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

The Dolphins have won four of their last six games, including a two-point victory over the Cowboys in round nine. Wayne Bennett’s men sit fourth on the NRL ladder, although they have not won back-to-back matches since round five.

The Sea Eagles have also been impressive this season, although they slipped one spot behind the Dolphins after last weekend’s two-point loss to the Raiders. Manly conceded four unanswered tries in last half-hour of that game, so coach Anthony Seibold will be looking for improvement on the defensive end.

The Dolphins have made two changes. Herbie Farnworth comes back into the centres in place of Tesi Niu, while Kenneath Bromwich joins the bench and Kurt Donoghoe drops to the reserves.

The Sea Eagles have been forced to make two changes with Nathan Brown (hip) and Lachlan Croker (concussion) out injured. Karl Lawton will start at hooker, with Gordon Chan Kum Tong added to the bench. Ben Trbojevic comes back from a hamstring injury to start in the second row, with Ethan Bullemor pushed back to the bench.

Despite their injuries, the travel to Brisbane, and the return of Farnworth to the Dolphins side, the Sea Eagles have been backed from as far as $1.83 into $1.73 to win this clash.

Dolphins v Sea Eagles betting strategy

The Manly Sea Eagles have lost their last three matches at Suncorp Stadium; however, two of those matches were against the Broncos and the third was in the 2021 finals series against the Rabbitohs. The visitors have arguably improved since they smashed the Dolphins by 40 points at 4 Pines Park in their only meeting last season, and they should be able to win by 13 or more points again ($3.30).

Reuben Garrick’s form in the centres for Manly has been second to none since moving from the wing. Not only did he score a hat-trick in last year’s match against the Dolphins, he’s also scored a double against the Raiders and Eels in his last two outings. Garrick has an elite combination with halfback Daly Cherry-Evans and is a great value play to record a third try-scoring double in as many weeks ($5.75).

Manly have been one of the top attacking teams in the NRL in recent times, while the addition of Farnworth has improved the Dolphins’ attack. Not only have the visitors scored 30 or more points in three of their last five matches, but the Dolphins have done the same in two of their three wins with Farnworth on the field. While rain is predicted for Brisbane on Thursday, the Suncorp Stadium surface is one of the best in the world, so this one should go over 47.5 total points ($1.90).
